Abstract

The percentage of males in betta fish has a low success rate. The number of male seeds obtained by each spawning is deficient, and the quality is not as desired. This study aimed to examine the effect of karamunting leaf extract on the process of male sex formation (masculinization) in Plakat Betta fish (Betta sp). This research does experimentally, consisting of 4 treatments and three replications. The treatments consist of; P0; control (without karamunting extract), P1; the immersion with a concentration of karamunting extract 1 mg/ 200 ml, P2; the immersion with a concentration of karamunting extract 2 mg/ 200 ml, P3; the immersion with a concentration of karamunting extract 4 mg/ 200 ml. The soaking betta fish larvae that are seven days old, with karamunting extract with different doses, for 24 hours. The results showed that the highest percentage of male betta fish was obtained in treatment P1 of 68%, for the highest rate of survival was found in treatment P0 (control) with a value of 100%. Based on the results of this study, it can conclude that the addition of karamunting leaf extract (Melastoma malabatrichum) with different doses can be an agent in male sex reversal (masculinization) in Betta fish (Betta sp).The percentage of males in betta fish has a low success rate.
