Abstract

Penelitian ini di laksanakan di Universitas Negeri Borneo Tarakanpada hari sabtu, 16 Juni 2012.Ada dua permasalahan yang terdapat pada penelitian ini yakni: pertama bagaimana tingkatan kemampuan grammar dan keteramplan menulis lulusan Sekolah Menengah Pertama di Tarakan tahun ajaran 2010/2011, kedua apakah terdapat korelasi yang signifikan antara kemampuan grammar dengan keterampilan menulis menggunakan produk moment. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa lulusan Sekolah Menengah Pertama yang saat ini berada di kelas satu Sekolah Menengah Atas di Tarakan. Adapun jumlah subjeknya sebanyak 30 orang. terdapat dua test hang di gunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu pertama test kemampuan grammar yang mengadopsi test dari Baron tes TOEFL, dan kedua tes keterampilan menulis berupa tes menulis surat sosial dalam bahasa inggris. Masing-masing test di berikan waktu selama 25 menit, jadi terdapat 50 menit untuk keseluruhan tes. Subjek penelitian mendapat pengajaran (petunjuk) sebelum memulai mengerjakan test yang di berikan peneliti, setidaknya siswa harus mengarang paling sedikit 150 kata. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan grammar dan keterampilan menulis siswa lulusan Sekolah Menengah Pertama di Tarakan tahun ajaran 2010/2011 masih lemah terbukti dengan nilai rata-rata siswa untuk grammar 31,37 dan menulis 33.21. Nilai dari korelasi antaraGrammar and menulis adalah 0.337.Tidak terdapat korelasi yang signifikan antara kemampuan grammar dengan keterampilan menulis siswa,jadi dapat di simpulkan pada kasus ini kemampuan grammar tidak mempengaruhi keterampilan menulis siswa lulusan Sekolah Menengah Pertama tahun ajaran 2010/2011.

This research was done in Borneo University Tarakan on Saturday, June 16th 2012. There were two problem statemants of the research: 1) what are the levels of grammar ability and writing skill of junior high school (SMP) graduates in Tarakan city academic year 2010/1011.2) Is there any significant correlation between English of grammar ability and writing skill used product moment. Subject of this research were students’ graduates of Junior High School, where the graduates are in the first grade of Senior High School at Tarakan. The total subject were 30 students,The test divided two types, first is grammar ability test from Baron’ test TOEFL, and the second is writing test, kind of this test is writing English social letter. Each tests consisted of 25 minutes. Before starting to did the test the students got direction from the researcher, and the students should wrote at least 150 words. Result of this research showed the levels of English grammar ability and writing skill of Junior High School (SMP) Graduates in Tarakan city academic year 2010/201 was poor criteria which are the mean score of the students’ grammar ability was31.73, andthe mean score of the students’ writing skill was33.27. The score of the correlation between Grammar Ability and writing skillwas 0.337. There was no significants correlation between students’ grammar ability and writing skill. Base on the result, researcher conclude that grammar ability was not influencing writing skill of Junior High School graduates Tarakan city in academic year 2010/2011.
