Abstract
Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mengembangkan buku pelajaran Bahasa Inggris terutama dalam keterampilan membaca untuk siswa kelas X Jurusan Pariwisata di SMKN 1 Tarakan dengan menggunakan metode penelitian dan pengembangan. Proses pengembangan penelitian ini menggunakan model Borg and Gall mencakup analisis kebutuhan, mendesain dan mengembangkan bahan ajar sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa kelas X Jurusan Pariwisata di SMKN 1 Tarakan, melakukan validasi ahli, uji coba produk, dan revisi. Sebanyak 33 siswa kelas X jurusan pariwisata diminta untuk menjawab pertanyaan kuisioner yang diberikan oleh peneliti dan seorang guru Bahasa Inggris diwawancarai untuk mengumpulkan data dan informasi yang dibutuhkan dalam mendesain bahan ajar ini. Hasil analisis kebutuhan melalui pemberian kuisioner, wawancara dan pengumpulan data menunjukkan bahwa peneliti perlu mengembangkan dan mendisain suatu bahan ajar berupa sebuah buku latihan Reading. Bahan ajar ini berisi beberapa latihan Reading seperti membaca percakapan, melakukan diskusi dan presentasi, menjawab pertanyaan sesuai dengan teks atau dialog, dan memahami kalimat lengkap sesuai dengan pola kalimat yang benar. Bahan ajar ini divalidasi oleh para ahli di bidang pengajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk melihat tata bahasa yang digunakan dan isi materi. Revisi dilakukan berdasarkan saran dan kritik dari para ahli. Setelah itu, produk ini diuji cobakan kepada siswa kelas X Jurusan Pariwisata di SMKN 1 Tarakan. Hasil akhir pengembangan ini berupa satu set bahan ajar Bahasa Inggris yang didesain khusus untuk kelas X Jurusan Pariwisata di SMKN 1 Tarakan yang siap digunakan. Produk ini sangat diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi penting bagi guru dan dapat memotivasi siswa untuk lebih giat belajar bahasa Inggris.
This research was intended to develop a proposed English Course book especially in Reading skill for the tenth grade students of Tourism Department at SMKN 1 Tarakan by using Research and Development (R&D) method.The processes of developing this research used Borg and Gall model covering need analysis, designing and developing teaching material based on the students’ needs in Tourism Department at SMKN 1 Tarakan, doing expert validation, trying out the product and revision. There were 33 tenth grade students of Tourism Department who were asked to answer the questionnaire whichwas given by researcher and an English teacher was interviewed to acquire the information which was needed in designing this Instructional material. The result of need analysis through distributing questionnaires, interview, and data collecting showed that researcher was necessary to developing and designing an instructional material organized as a Reading Course book. This instructional material contained some reading excercises such as reading conversation, doing discussion and presentation, answering questions based on text or dialog, and comprehending a complete sentence which was suitable with correct pattern of sentence. This teaching material was validated by the experts in Language teaching field to check the grammar and the contents. Revision were conducted based on suggestion and critism from experts.Then, this product was tried out to the tenth grade students of Tourism Department at SMKN 1 Tarakan. The result of this research and development was a set of instructional material that had special designed for the the tenth grade students of Tourism Department at SMKN 1 Tarakan which was ready to use. This product hopefully could give significant contribution for the teacher and could motivate students to be harder in lerning English.
