Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada efek yang signifikan dari penggunaan model pengajaran STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions) dalam meningkatkan nilai writing siswa dalam jenis teks narrative. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan. Jumlah populasi adalah 300 siswa. Penentuan sampel dengan cara teknik cluster random sampling. Ada dua grup sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini. Mereka adalah control group dan experimental group. Kelas VIII-1 sebagai experimental group dan kelas VIII-2 sebagai control group. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 60 siswa, dimana masing-masing kelas terdiri dari 30 siswa untuk control group dan 30 siswa untuk experimental group. Tahap-tahap dalam penelitian ini adalah pretest, treatment dan posttest. Pada tahap pretest siswa diminta untuk menulis sebuah teks narrative. Fungsi dari pretest adalah untuk mendapatkan informasi mengenai kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks narrative. Setelah pretest, peneliti memberikan treatment menggunakan model pengajaran STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions) untuk kelas experimental dan untuk kelas control menggunakan cara tradisional. Peneliti mengajar siswa-siswa mengenai menulis teks narrative di kedua kelas menggunakan cara yang berbeda. Setelah treatment, posttest diberikan kepada siswa. Research result menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan dari nilai siswa antara experimental group dan control group setelah diberikan treatment. Ini dibuktikan dari mean score dan t-test. Mean score dari experimental group lebih tinggi dari control group. Dimana mean score dari experimental group adalah 89,33 dan mean score dari control group adalah 74,33 dengan selisih nilai 15 poin. Dari hasil analisis data mengindikasikan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan dari nilai menulis siswa antara experimental group dan control group. Selanjutnya ditemukan bahwa nilai t-test lebih tinggi dari nilai t-table. Dimana nilai t-test adalah 12,372 dan nilai t-table adalah 1,672, selisih nilainya adalah 10,7 poin. Ttest telah dianalisis menggunakan SPSS 16.0, sedangkan t-table dapat dilihat dalam t-table distribusi. Berdasarkan keterangan di atas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa model pengajaran yang baik dalam mengajar menulis teks narrative adalah dengan menggunakan model pengajaran STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions).

This research aimed at investigating the significant effect of using STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions) teaching model in increasing the students’ scores of writing narrative text. The population of this research was all of eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan. The total number of population was 300 students. The sample was taken by using cluster random sampling technique. There were two groups of sample in this research. They are control group and experimental group. Class VIII-1 as the experimental group and class VIII-2 as control group. The sample of this research was consisted of 60 students, which each class was consisted of 30 students for control group and 30 students for experimental group. The stages in this research are pretest, treatment and posttest. In pretest the students were asked to write a narrative text. The function of pretest is to get information about the students’ skill in writing narrative text. After pretest, the researcher gave treatment by using STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions) teaching model in experimental group and for control group by using traditional way. The researcher taught about writing narrative text in both of classes using different way. After treatment, posttest was given to students. The research result showed that there was significant difference of students’ score between the experimental group and control group after treatment. It was proved by the mean score and t-test. The mean score of experimental group was higher than control group. Where mean score of experimental group was 89.33 and mean score of control group was 74.33 with the gain of the score was 15 points. From the result of data analysis indicated that there was a significant difference of students’ writing scores between experimental group and control group. Next, it was found that the value of t-test was higher than the value of ttable. Where the score of t-test was 12.372 and the score of t-table was 1.672, the gain of the score was 10.7 point. T-test was analyzed by the SPSS 16.0, besides ttable could be seen from t-table distribution. Based on those conclusions above, it can be concluded that teaching model which good in teaching writing narrative text was by using STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions) teaching model.
