Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara motivasi belajar dalam bahasa Inggris dan pemahaman membaca pada siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 2 Sebatik Barat. Motivasi belajar siswa diidentifikasi berdasarkan kuesioner sedangkan pemahaman membaca siswa diukur dengan soal pilihan ganda. Sampel diambil sebanyak 75 orang siswa dari 75 siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 2 Sebatik Barat dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling. Hasil penelitian mengenai hubungan antara motivasi belajar dalam bahasa Inggris dan pemahaman membaca pada siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 2 Sebatik Barat bahwa hasil uji korelasi menunjukkan nilai signifikan (Rxy) adalah 0.001 dan lebih kecil dari taraf signifikan (0.05) yang berarti ada hubungan signifikan antara motivasi belajar dalam bahasa Inggris dan pemahaman membaca pada siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 2 Sebatik Barat tahun ajaran 2017/2018.

The objective of this research was to investigate is there any correlation between students’ motivation in learning English and reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sebatik Barat. Students’ learning motivation identified by the questionnaire while reading comprehension measured by the multiple choice test. The total sample was 75 students from 75 students at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sebatik Barat by total sampling technique. The result of the research about the correlation between students’ motivation in learning English and reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sebatik Barat that the result of correlation test shows the significant 2 tailed (Rxy) was 0.001 and it was lower than the level of significant (0.05) it means there was a correlation between students’ motivation in learning English and reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Sebatik Barat in academic year 2017/2018.
