Bertambahnya penduduk di Kota Tarakan akan menambah jumlah kendaraan roda dua maupun roda empat. Penggunaan kendaraan pribadi seperti kendaraan roda dua dan roda empat meningkat setiap harinya. Sementara ruas jalan yang ada tidak sesuai dengan jumlah kendaraan yang bertambah, sehingga dibutuhkan moda angkutan massal untuk jangka panjang seperti Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). Pemerintah Kota Tarakan mendapatkan bantuan dari Kementrian Perhubungan sebanyak 10 unit bus yang telah beroperasi. Namun persoalan berikutnya adalah lokasi bus stop belum optimum, sehingga perlu ada penelitian lebih lanjut untuk menentukan pemberhentian bus. Dalam penelitian ini, penentuan lokasi bus stop dilakukan berdasarkan kriteria penempatan lokasi bus stop yang dikeluarkan oleh Direktorat Jendral Bina Marga, 1990 dan jarak pemberhentian bus yang dikerluarkan oleh Departemen Perhubungan, 1996. Selanjutnya lokasi bus stop rencana dipetakan dalam software ArcGIS. Sementara ini di Kota Tarakan terdapat 101 lokasi bus stop. Setelah dilakukan analisa dari data tersebut ada beberapa lokasi bus stop yang tidak memenuhi kriteria dan beberapa lokasi bangkitan yang tidak terdapat bus stop. Hasil analisa menyimpulkan bahwa ada beberapa perubahan dan penambahan lokasi bus stop, sehingga jumlah bus stop menjadi 127 bus stop.

The increase of the population on Tarakan City will add the amount of twowheeled vehicle as well as the four-wheeled vehicle. The use of private vehicle as the two-wheeled vehicle and four-wheeled vehicle increase every day. In the interim, the existing roads not compatible with the number of vehicles that increases, therefore be required long-term public transportation such as Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). The Government of Tarakan City receives help from The Ministry of Transportation as much as 10 bus units that had operated. Nevertheless, the next issue is the bus stop place not ideal yet, that further research needed to specify the bus stop. In this study, the location of the bus stop was determined based on the criteria for the location of the bus stop issued by the Directorate General of Bina Marga, 1990 and the bus stop distance extended by the Ministry of Transportation, 1996. Furthermore the location of the stop bus plan was mapped in the ArcGIS software. While in Tarakan City there are 101 bus stop locations. After analyzing the data there are several bus stop locations that do not meet the criteria and some generation locations that do not have a bus stop. The analysis concluded that there were several changes and additional bus stop locations, so the number of bus stops became 127 bus stops.
