Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada efek yang signifikan dari teknik permainan menebak dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara pada siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan. Penelitian ini berbentuk percobaan (pra-eksperiment). Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan. Jumlah populasi adalah 245 siswa. Penentuan sampel diambil dengan cara purposive sampling technique, kelas VIII – 1 sebagai sampel kelas yang terdiri 30 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan mencakup pretest dan posttest. Selain itu, peneliti menggunakan deskriptif analisis untuk menganalisis data dan SPSS 22.0 untuk analisis statistik. Hasil penelitian menunujukkan bahwa ada hasil perbedaan yang signifikan dari nilai rata – rata siswa antara pretest dan posttest. Ini dibuktikan dengan niIai rata – rata, dimana nilai 29.87 pada pretest dan nilai 51.00 pada posttest. Selisih nilai adalah 21.13 poin. Nilai rata – rata pada posttest lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan nilai rata – rata pretest. Hasil ini mengindikasikan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan dari nilai kemampuan berbicara siswa antara pretest dan posttest. Sedangkan hasil dari paired sample test menunujukkan bahwa nilai t-test 9.891 lebih tinggi dari nilai t-table 2.043. Selisih nilai adalah 7.848 poin. Dengan demikian, 9.891 > 2.043 berarti Ha diterima dan Ho ditolak. Berdasarkan hasil di atas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penelitian teknik permainan menebak ini efektik dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara pada siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan.

The research aimed to find out the significant effect of guessing games technique to improve students’ speaking skill in eighth grade of SMP Negeri 05 Tarakan. The research was pre-experiment. The population of the research was eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan. The total number of population was 245 students. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling technique, class VIII – 1 was as the sample class which consisted 30 students. The instrument was speaking test that included pretest and posttest. Besides that, the researcher used descriptive analysis as the data analysis and SPSS 22.0 for analyzed the statistics. The research result showed that there were significant differences of students’ mean scores between pretest and posttest. It was proved by the mean score, where 29.87 in pretest and 51.00 in posttest. The gain score was 21.13 points. The mean score of posttest was higher than pretest. It indicated that there was significant difference from students’ speaking skill score between pretest and posttest. While the result of paired sample test showed that t-test computation was 9.891 higher than t-table 2.043. The gain of the score is 7.848 point. Thus, 9.891 > 2.043 it means Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. Based on those results above, it can be concluded that in this research guessing games technique is effective to improve students’ speaking skill in eighth grade of SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan.
