Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa menggunakan learning media. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMA Muhammadiyah Boarding School Tarakan Tarakan sebagai subjek penelitian. Subjek dari penelitian ini berjumlah 28 siswa dari kelas X-B di SMA Muhammadiyah Boarding School Tarakan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Desain penelitian tindakan kelas yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu penelitian tindakan kelas kolaboratif yaitu bekerjasama dengan guru Bahasa Inggris sebagai kolaborator di dalam kelas. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilakukan dalam 2 siklus dimana setiap siklus terdiri dari tahap (Planning) perencanaan, (Acting) tindakan, (Observing) observasi, dan (Reflecting) refleksi. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah (observation checklist) daftar periksa observasi dan (vocabulary test) tes kosakata. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada perkembangan dalam penguasaan kosakata siswa. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari hasil tes kosakata siswa. Hasil dari tes kosakata siswa pada siklus pertama tidak mencapai kriteria kesuksesan karena hasil menunjukkan bahwa hanya 43% dari siswa yang mencapai KKM (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal) sedangkan hasil dari tes kosakata siswa pada siklus kedua menunjukkan 89% dari siswa mencapai KKM, dengan demikian kriteria kesuksesan telah tercapai. Hasil dari daftar periksa observasi untuk aktifitas guru dan siswa telah mencapai kriteria kesuksesan dalam setiap pertemuan. Setelah pengolahan data, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan learning media berhasil dalam meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata siswa pada kelas sepuluh di SMA Muhammadiyah Boarding School Tarakan.

This study aims to improve students' vocabulary mastery using learning media. This research was conducted at SMA Muhammadiyah Boarding School Tarakan Tarakan as the research subject. The subjects of this study were 28 students from class X-B at SMA Muhammadiyah Boarding School Tarakan. The research method used in this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The classroom action research design used in this research is collaborative classroom action research, which is in collaboration with English teachers as collaborators in the classroom. This classroom action research was conducted in 2 cycles where each cycle consisted of (Planning) planning, (Acting) action, (Observing) observation, and (Reflecting) reflection. The research instruments used were (observation checklist) observation checklist and (vocabulary test) vocabulary test. The results of this study indicate that there is a development in students' vocabulary mastery. This can be seen from the results of students' vocabulary tests. The results of the student vocabulary test in the first cycle did not reach the success criteria because the results showed that only 43% of the students achieved the KKM (Minimum Completeness Criteria) while the results of the student vocabulary test in the second cycle showed 89% of the students achieved the KKM, thus the success criteria has been achieved. The results of the observation checklist for teacher and student activities have met the criteria for success in each meeting. After processing the data, it can be concluded that the application of learning media was successful in increasing the vocabulary mastery of the tenth graders at SMA Muhammadiyah Boarding School Tarakan.
