Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efek dari penggunaan Teknik Clustering pada pencapaian prestasi siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif di kelas delapan SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan. Rancangan penelitian ini adalah berbentuk Pra-eksperiment dimana penelitian ini digunakan untuk mengetahui perbedaan hasil belajar sebelum dan setelah pembelajaran dengan menggunakan Teknik Clustering. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII-C yang terdiri dari 32 siswa-siswi di SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan. Instrumen yang digunakan pada penelitian ini berupa tes tertulis yakni writing test. Test tertulis ini dilaksanakan pada saat sebelum (pre test) dan sesudah (pos tes) dalam pembelajaran yang menggunakan Teknik Clustering di kelas. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya perbedaan skor rata-rata antara pra tes dan pos tes. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan hasil skor rata-rata siswa. Rata-rata skor yang diperoleh siswa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara pra tes dan pos tes. Hasil rata-rata skor pra-tes adalah 46.31 dan hasil rata-rata pos tes adalah 71.56. Selanjutnya, hasil paired sample t-test menunjukan bahwa hasil tersebut (12.877) lebih tinggi dari nilai t-table (2.039). Berdasaran hasil t-test tersebut, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa penggunaaan Teknik Clustering terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan prestasi belajar siswa dalam menulis. Disamping itu, penggunaan teknik clustering dapat mengembangkan berpikir kritis siswa, meningkat motivasi belajar siswa dan membuat siswa lebih aktif dikelas.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using the Clustering Technique on student achievement in writing descriptive texts in the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan. The design of this research is in the form of a pre-experiment where this research is used to determine the differences in learning outcomes before and after learning using the Clustering Technique. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII-C which consisted of 32 students at SMP Negeri 2 Tarakan. The instrument used in this study was a written test, namely a writing test. This written test is carried out before (pre-test) and after (post-test) in learning using the Clustering Technique in the classroom. The results of this study indicate that there is a difference in the average score between the pre-test and post-test. This is evidenced by the results of the average score of students. The average score obtained by students there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. The mean pre-test score was 46.31 and the post-test mean was 71.56. Furthermore, the results of the paired sample t-test show that the result (12.877) is higher than the t-table value (2.039). Based on the results of the t-test, the researcher concluded that the use of the Clustering Technique was proven to be effective in improving students' learning achievement in writing. In addition, the use of clustering techniques can develop students' critical thinking, increase student motivation and make students more active in class.
