Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari efektifitas dari menggunakan teknik herringbone untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas sepuluh di SMK Terpadu Citra Bangsa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain pre-eksperimental. Penentuan sampel dilakukan dengan cara teknik total. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah 38 siswa. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah kelas X yang terdiri dari 38 siswa. Instrument yang digunakan berupa tes membaca berupa pra tes dan pos tes. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan ada perbedaan skor rata-rata antara pretest dan posttest. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan hasil skor rata-rata siswa. Skor rata-rata siswa dalam pretest adalah 57.26 dan dalam posttest adalah 65.68. Ini menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa mengalami peningkatan nilai sebesar 8.42. Dapat dilihat bahsa peningkatan nilai rata-rata siswa pada posttest lebih tinggi daripada pretest dan menunjukkan ada perbedaan dari nilai membaca siswa antara pretest dan posttest.hasil dari paired sample test menunjukkan bahwa t-test adalah 9.748 lebih tinggi dari t-table (1.688). Sehingga, 9.748 > 1.688. Dengan kata lain hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima. Hasil analisis data membuktikan bahwa hasil pengajaran menggunakan teknik herringbone dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca. Berdasarkan penjelasan di atas, dapat di simpulkan bahwa teknik herringbone effektif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas X di SMK Terpadu Citra Bangsa.

The purpose of this research was to find the effectiveness of using herringbone technique to improve reading comprehension of tenth grade students at SMK Terpadu Citra Bangsa. This research was pre-experiment design. Total sampling technique was used to collect the sample. The population of this research was all the tenth grader at SMK Terpadu Citra Bangsa. The total population was 38 students. The sample of this research was X class that consisted of 38 students. The instrument of this research was reading tests that consisted of pre-test and post-test. The results showed that there was difference mean score between pretest and posttest. It was proven by the result of the students’ mean score. The mean score in pretest was 57.26 and in posttest was 65.68. It was indicated that the mean has increased to 8.42. It can be seen that the improvement of the students’ mean score in the posttest was higher than pretest and it indicated that there was difference from students’ reading score between pretest and posttest. The result of paired sample t-test showed that t-test computation was 9.748 higher than t-table (1.688). On the other word, 9.748 > 1.688 it means (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The results of data analysis proved that the results of teaching reading comprehension by using herringbone technique able to improve students reading comprehension. Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that herringbone technique is effective to improve students reading comprehension in tenth grade students’ of SMK Terpadu Citra Bangsa.
