Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan metode Project Based Learning dalam menulis teks narasi bagi siswa kelas delapan SMP Negeri 7 Tarakan pada tahun ajaran 2018/2019. Penelitian ini mengggunakan desain penelitian pre-experimental. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 7 Tarakan. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII 3. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 31 siswa. Penentuan sampel dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Kelas VIII 3 adalah kelas yang diberi perlakuan. Kelas yang diberi perlakuan berjumlah 31 siswa. Tahap-tahap dalam penelitian ini adalah pretest, treatment, posttest. Pada tahap pretest, siswa diminta untuk mengerjakan writing test. Setelah pretest, peneliti memberikan treatment. Kelas yang diberi perlakuan diajarkan dengan menggunakan metode Project Based Learning. Setelah diberikan treatment, siswa diminta untuk mengerjakan writing test pada tahap posttest. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan paired sample t-test dalam aplikasi SPSS 24.0. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan nilai rata-rata diantara pretest dan posttest. Ini dibuktikan melalui hasil nilai rata-rata siswa dari pretest adalah 48.00 dan 65.29 pada hasil posttest. Ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan nilai rata-rata sebesar 17.290. Hasil dari t-value lebih besar dari t-table (7.478 > 2.042). Itu membuktikan bahwa kemampuan menulis siswa dalam teks narrative text mengalami peningkatan setelah diberikan perlakuan. Hasil dari perbandingan sig (2 tailed) 0.000 lebh kecil dari 0.05, itu berarti bahwa metode Project Based Learning dapat memberikan kontribusi pada kemampuan menulis siswa. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan metode Project Based Learning berpengaruh dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dalam narrative text pada kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 7 Tarakan.

The objective of this research was to find out wheter there was any significant difference in students’ writing skill before and after being taught using Project Based Learning method in learning narrative text at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Tarakan. The design of this research was Pre-Experimental research. The population in this research was all of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Tarakan. The sample in this research was 31 students. The sample was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. Class for treatment was VIII 3. It consisted of 31 students. The steps in this research were pretest, treatment, and posttest. In the pretest, the students were asked to answer the writing test. After giving the pretest, the researcher gave treatment. The treatment class was taught by using Project Based Learning method. After giving the treatment, students were asked to answer the writing test in posttest. In analyzing the data, the researcher was used paired sample t-test in SPSS 24.0. The result of this study showed that there was different mean score between pretest and posttest. It was proven by the result of students’ mean score from pretest was 48.00 and 65.29 in the posttest. It indicates that the improvement of the students’ mean score was 17.290. The result t-value is higher than t-table (7.478 > 2.042). It proves that the students’ writing skill in narrative text improved after giving the treatment. The result of sig (2 tailed) 0.000 is lower than 0.05, it means that the Project Based Learning method can give any contribution to the students’ writing skill. It can be concluded that using Project Based Learning method is impact to improve the students’ writing skill in narrative text at the eightth grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Tarakan.
