Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan profil hasil ujian bahasa Inggris siswa SMP di Bulungan pada tahun akademik 2019/2020 dan mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam hasil Ujian Nasional Bahasa Inggris dengan mempertimbangkan jenis kelamin, status sekolah, akreditasi sekolah, dan prestasi siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain komparatif kausal. Seluruh siswa yang mengikuti ujian nasional pada tahun akademik 2019/2020 diambil sampelnya dengan total 2.228 siswa dari 43 sekolah. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, ditemukan bahwa, pertama, hasil ujian bahasa Inggris siswa SMP di Bulungan masuk kategori "kurang" dari segi jenis kelamin, status sekolah, dan akreditasi sekolah. Namun, prestasi siswa diklasifikasikan sebagai kategori masing-masing yang berarti bahwa mereka yang berada dalam kategori yang sangat baik, baik, cukup dan kurang dalam Skor Ujian Nasional mendapat kategori yang sangat baik, baik, cukup dan kurang dalam ujian bahasa Inggris masing-masing. Kedua, perbedaan hasil ujian bahasa Inggris siswa SMP di Bulungan dengan mempertimbangkan jenis kelamin, status sekolah, akreditasi sekolah, prestasi siswa dapat dinyatakan sebagai berikut: (1) siswa perempuan memiliki kinerja yang lebih baik daripada siswa laki-laki untuk Ujian Nasional Bahasa Inggris mereka; (2) tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam Ujian Nasional Bahasa Inggris antara siswa sekolah umum dan siswa swasta; (3) ada perbedaan signifikan simultan dalam Ujian Nasional Bahasa Inggris berdasarkan akreditasi sekolah, di mana sekolah terakreditasi A lebih unggul di antara sekolah terakreditasi B, sekolah terakreditasi C, dan sekolah yang tidak terakreditasi; namun, tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara sekolah terakreditasi B dan sekolah terakreditasi C, sekolah terakreditasi B dan sekolah yang tidak terakreditasi, dan sekolah terakreditasi C dan sekolah yang tidak terakreditasi; dan (4) ada perbedaan signifikan simultan dalam Ujian Nasional Bahasa Inggris berdasarkan prestasi siswa (dikategorikan sangat baik, baik, cukup dan kurang), namun, siswa yang sangat baik tidak lebih baik dari pada mereka yang mendapat baik untuk Skor Ujian Nasional ketika mengambil Ujian Nasional Inggris.

This research aimed at describing the profile of English examination results of Junior High School students in Bulungan in academic year 2019/2020 and find out whether there was any significant difference in English National Examination result by considering gender, school status, school accreditation, and student’s achievement. This research employed a causal comparative design. All students who took the national examination in academic year 2019/2020 were taken as the samples with a total of 2,228 students from 43 schools.Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that, first, the students’ English examination results of Junior High School in Bulungan were in the “poor” category in terms of gender, school status, and school accreditation. However, the students’ achievements were classified as its each category which meant that those who were in very good, good, fair and poor category in National Examination Score got very good, good, fair and poor category in English examination respectively. Second, the differences in students’ English examination results of Junior High School in Bulungan by considering gender, school status, school accreditation, students’ achievement could be stated as follows: (1) female students had better performance than male students for their English National Examination; (2) there was no any significant difference in English National Examination between public school students and private students; (3) there were simultaneous significant differences in English National Examination based on school accreditation, where A accredited schools were superior among B accredited schools, C accredited schools, and unaccredited schools; however, there were no any significant differences between B accredited schools and C accredited schools, B accredited schools and unaccredited schools, and C accredited schools and unaccredited schools; and (4) there were simultaneous significant differences in English National Examination based on students’ achievement (categorized as very good, good, fair and poor), however, very good students were not better than those who got good for National Examination Score when taking the English National Examination.
