Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peran dominan guru Bahasa inggris dan respon siswa dalam kelas online pada masa pandemi covid-19 di SMA Negeri 1 Tarakan. Metodologi penelitian yang digunakan adalah desain deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif, yaitu menggambarkan keadaan yang sebenarnya di lapangan. Dalam pengumpulan data, penelitian menggunakan pedoman wawancara, angket, lembar observasi, dan dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah lima orang guru Bahasa inggris dan siswa kelas XI Linat A (27 siswa) sebagai data pendukung di SMA Negeri 1 Tarakan. Peran dominan yang peneliti temukan adalah sebagai Informer, Organizer, Motivator, Director, Mediator, Evaluator, Advisor, Diagnostician, dan Facilitator dan respon siswa sesuai dengan sembilan peran yang dilakukan oleh guru. Para siswa telah memberikan pendapat mereka yang sebenarnya tentang guru mereka selama melakukan pembelajaran Bahasa inggris online. Sebagai kesimpulan, temuan penelitian ini telah menjawab pertanyaan penelitian.

This study purposed to characterized the prominent role of English teachers and students’ responses in online lessons during the Covid-19 pandemic at SMA Negeri 1 Tarakan. A descriptive design with a qualitative approach was utilized in the research, which described the actual situation in the field. The researcher employed interview protocols, questionnaires, observation sheets, and documentation to gather the data. Five English teachers and students from XI Linat A (27 students) from SMA negeri 1 Tarakan served as the research participants in this study. Informer, Organizer, Motivator, Director, Mediator, Evaluator, Advisor, Diagnostician, and Facilitator were the most common positions identified by the researcher, and students’ responses matched the nine functions played by the teachers. During their online English classes, the students expressed their honest feeling to their teachers. In conclusion, the findings of this study had provided the answers to the research problems.
