Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tentang penilaian membaca apa yang digunakan dalam keterampilan membaca bahasa inggris dan bagaimana proses implementasi penilaian reading pada mahasiswa semester dua tahun akademik 2020/2021. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian kualitatif. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah dosen Bahasa Inggris mata kuliah Reading. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kelas A1 semester dua jurusan pendidikan bahasa inggris. Instrumen data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kumpulan dokumen, lembar observasi, dan wawancara. Data tersebut dianalisis dengan sistem open coding, axial coding, dan selective coding. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada tiga tipe penilaian yang sering digunakan oleh dosen Bahasa Inggris tersebut yaitu performance assessment, portfolio assessment dan written assessment dalam menilai kemampuan membaca mahasiswa. Dari tiga tipe penilaian membaca, dosen Bahasa inggris tersebut menggunakan teknik diskusi dan presentasi secara berkelompok (performance assessment), review novel/artikel dan membuat report (portfolio assessment), dan answer-question dan multiple choice test (written assessment).

The purpose of this study was to describe the reading assessments that were used in English reading skills, as well as the method how it was implemented in second semester students in the academic year 2020/2021. A qualitative research approach was used in the study. The subject of this research was an English lecturer in Reading course. This research was conducted in class A1 at the second semester of English education department. The data instruments used in this study were document analysis, observation sheets, and interviews. The data were analyzed by using open coding, axial coding, and selective coding systems. The results showed that there were three types of assessments often used by the English lecturer in assessing the students’ reading skills, namely performance assessment, portfolio assessment and written assessment. From three types of reading assessment, the English lecturer used group discussion and presentation techniques or performance assessment, reviewing novel/articles, making reports or portfolio assessment, answer-questions and multiple choice tests.
