Abstract
Potential antibacterial plants such as Catharanthus roseus and Polygala paniculata L.are very common in home yards. This study aimed to determine the potential extract combination of Catharanthus roseus and Polygala paniculata L. roots against the growth of pathogenic bacteria and to develop a suitable reference book. This was a Reseacrh and Development (R & D) study and observation of antibacterial activity was carried out through well diffussion method with concentration treatments of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%. The extracts combination were able to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli (ATCC 8739) and Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538). The highest diameter of inhibition zone of Escherichia coli (ATCC 8739) was 17,5 mm (very strong inhibitory) at a concentration of 80 % while the highest inhibitory growth rate of Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538) was 15,25 mm (very strong inhibitory) at a concentration of 100%. The feasibility of the product in the form of a reference book was based on the assessment obtained from experts: 75% from media experts (quite feasible), 95% from material experts (very feasible), and 83,52% from practitioners (very feasible) The average percentage of the reference book eligibility was 85% (very feasible). In addition, 85,12% of student responses showed a category of very interesting.
