Abstract

Terdapat sejumlah faktor yang mempengaruhi keberhasilan belajar bahasa asing, termasuk gaya belajar siswa. Oleh karna itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gaya belajar yang paling banyak disukai oleh siswa kelas sembilan di Miagao National High School, Iloilo, Philippines dan SMP Negeri 1 Tarakan Indonesia, dan juga untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat perbedaan antara gaya belajar siswa kelas Sembilan di Miagao National High School, Iloilo, Philippines dan SMP Negeri 1 Tarakan Indonesia pada tahun ajaran 2019/2020. Sample diambil sebanyak 89 dari 632 siswa, 43 siswa Pilipina dan 46 siswa Indonesia dengan menggunakan purposive sampling. Gaya belajar diidentifikasi berdasarkan angket gaya belajar dan wawancara untuk memperkuat data. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan desain komparatif. Hasil mengungkapkan bahwa gaya belajar yang paling banyak digunakan oleh siswa kelas sembilan di Pilipina adalah kinestetik sebanyak 16 siswa dengan persentase 37.21% , sedangkan gaya belajar yang paling banyak digunakan di Indonesia adalah gaya belajar visual sebanyak 22 siswa dengan persentase 47.83%. Secara keseluruhan, berdasarkan hasil perhitungan dari uji Independent Sample T-test menunjukan bahwa nilai sig.(2 tailed) lebih tinggi daripada level of significant (0.052>0.05) dan nilai T-hitung lebih rendah daripada T-table (-1.975

Learning style is one of factors that influence the success of learning a foreign language. This study aimed to determine learning styles most preferred by the ninth grade students of Miagao National High School, Iloilo, Philippines and the student of SMP Negeri 1 Tarakan Indonesia, and to find out whether there were differences in the use of learning style between the students of the two schools. Through purposive sampling, 89 of 632 students were taken as the samples that consisted of 43 Filipino students and 46 Indonesian students. Learning styles were identified based on a learning style questionnaire and interviews to strengthen the data. This research used a quantitative approach and a comparative design. The results showed that kinesthetic learning style was most widely used by Filipino students (16 students or 37.21%), while visual learning style was most widely used by Indonesian students (22 students or 47.83%). Overall, the independent sample t-test analysis result showed that the value of sig. (2 tailed) was higher than the level of significant (0.052 > 0.05) and the calculated t value was lower than the critical t value (-1.975 < 1.988). This meant that H0 was accepted and Ha was rejected. Thus, there was no significant difference in the use of learning style between the ninth grade students of Miagao National High School, Iloilo, Philippines and the students of SMP Negeri 1 Tarakan Indonesia.
