Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti korelasi antara penguasaan kosakata dan kemampuan menulis bahasa inggris siswa dikelas sepuluh, siswa SMA Negeri 3 Tarakan. In adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional. Populasi adalah siswa kelas sepuluh dari SMA Negeri 3 Tarakan. Menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling, 59 dari 288 siswa kelas X MIA 2 dan X IIS 1 diambil sebagai sampel penilitian.Data dikumpulkan menggunakan tes. Data dianalasis secara statistic menggunakan Pearson Product Moment dengan bantuan SPSS versi 24.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada korelasi signifikan antara penguasaan kosakata dan kemampuan menulis siswa di kelas sepuluh siswa SMA Negeri 3 Tarakan seperti yang ditunjukkan dengan nilai signifikansi 0.006 < 0.05 dan nilai r yang dihitung lebih besar dari nilai r kritis (0.354 > 0.256)
This study aimed at examining the correlation between vocabulary mastery and English writing skills of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Tarakan. This was a quantitative research with a correlational design. The population was tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Tarakan. Using a cluster random sampling technique, 59 studens from class X MIA 2 and class X IIS 1 were taken as samples. Data were collected using vocabulary tests. The collected data were statistically analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment with the help of SPSS version 24,0. The result showed that there was a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing ability of the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Tarakan. This was indicated by the significance value (0.006) which was lesser than 0.05 and the calculated r value (0.354) was greater than the critical r value (0.256).
