Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa dalam pembelajaran membaca cerpen menggunakan metode SQ3R pada siswa kelas VIII-G SMP Negeri 1 Nunukan Selatan. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) yang dilaksanakan pada siswa kelas VIII-G di SMP Negeri 1 Nunukan Selatan semester II (genap) tahun ajaran 2018/2019. Sabjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII-G di SMP Negeri 1 Nunukan Selatan dengan jumlah 30 siswa, yang terdiri dari 17 siswa laki-laki dan 13 siswa perempuan. Penelitian ini terlaksana dalam 2 siklus, dalam prosedur tiap siklus terdapat dua pertemuan dengan desain penelitian yang meliputi perencanaan, pelaksanaan/tindakan, observasi dan refleksi. Pada tahap perencanaan peneliti menyusun kegiatan yang akan dilakukan. Kemudian pada tahap pelaksanaan/tindakan peneliti melaksanakan kegiatan yang telah direncanakan sebelumnya. Selanjutnya peneliti melakukan observasi guna mengetahui permasalahan apa yang di ditimbulkan dari pelaksanaan tindakan. Dan peneliti melakukan refleksi sebagai bahan untuk mengevaluasi masalah yang telah diamati agar dapat ditingkatkan pada siklus selanjutnya. Dari hasil penelitian ini diperoleh sejumlah data yaitu lembar observasi aktivitas guru dan lembar observasi aktivitas siswa, hasil tes belajar aspek afektif, kognitif dan psikomotorik. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa metode SQ3R (Survey, Question, Red, Recite dan Review) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman dalam pembelajaran membaca cerpen pada siswa kelas VIII-G SMP Negeri 1 Nunukan Selatan. Hal ini dapat dibuktikan dari hasil yang diperoleh pada setiap siklus. Siklus I aspek kognitif dengan persentase nilai 70%, aspek afektif dengan persentase nilai 53%, aspek psikomotorik dengan persentase nilai 57%. Kemudian meningkat pada siklus II pada aspek kognitif menjadi 97%, pada aspek afektif menjadi 97% dan aspek psikomotorik menjadi 97%. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa membaca pemahaman pada pembelajaran membaca cerpen menggunakan metode SQ3R (Survey, Question, Red, Recite dan Review) dapat
meningkatkan kemampuan siswa kelas VIII-G SMP Negeri 1 Nunukan Selatan.

The purpose of this study is to improve students' reading comprehension skills in learning to read short stories using the SQ3R method in class VIII-G students at SMP Negeri 1 South Nunukan. This research is a classroom action research (PTK) conducted on students of class VIII-G in SMP Negeri 1 South Nunukan semester 1 (odd) academic year 2018/2019. The subject of this research was students of class VIII-G in SMP Negeri 1 South Nunukan with a total of 30 students, consisting of 17 male students and 13 female students. This research was carried out in 2 cycles, in the procedure for each cycle there were two meetings with the research design which included planning, implementation/action, observation and reflection. In the planning stage the researcher compiles the activities to be carried out. Then at the implementation stage/action the researcher carries out the activities that were planned beforehand. Furthermore, researchers conducted observations to find out what problems arising from the implementation of the action. And researchers do reflection as material to evaluate problems that have been observed so that they can be improved in the next cycle. From the results of this study obtained a number of data that is the teacher activity observation sheet and student activity observation sheet, the results of learning tests on affective, cognitive and psychomotor aspects. The results of this study indicate that the SQ3R method (Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review) can improve reading comprehension skills in learning to read short stories in class VIII-G students of SMP Negeri 1 South Nunukan. This can be proven from the results obtained in each cycle. Cycle I cognitive aspects with a percentage value of 70%, affective aspects with a percentage value of 53%, psychomotor aspects with a percentage value of 57%. Then increased in cycle II in the cognitive aspect to 97%, in the affective aspect to 97% and psychomotor aspects to 97%. Thus it can be concluded that reading comprehension in short story learning using the SQ3R method (Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review) can improve the ability of students of class VIII-G of SMP Negeri 1 South Nunukan.
