Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada dampak yang signifikan terhadap penggunaan metode pembelajaran SQ3R (Survei, Question, Reading, Recite and Review) dalam proses pembelajaran terhadap peningkatan Pemahaman membaca pada siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII di SMP Muhammadiyah 2. Jumlah populasi adalah 135 siswa. Penentuan sample dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling. Ada dua group yang menjadi sampel didalam penelitian ini. Mereka adalah control group dan experimental group. Kelas VIII A (26 siswa) sebagai experimental group dan kelas VIII C (28 siswa) sebagai control group. Perhitungan hasil analisis penelitian ini menggunakan program SPSS 16. Dari hasil perhitungan menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan dari nilai siswa kelas eksperimental group dan control group dengan hasil nilai posttest eksperimental group 46.23 dan control group 37.07. selanjutnya nilai t-test lebih tinggi dari nilai ttable, dimana nilai t-test adalah 4.260 dan nilai t-table adalah 1.674. Dari penjelasan di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran dengan menggunakan metode SQ3R dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa.

This study aims to determine whether there is a significant impact on the use of learning methods SQ3R (Survey, Question, Reading, Recite and Review) in the process of learning to increase the students' understanding of reading. This study's population was around eighth grade students at SMP Muhammadiyah 2. Total population is 135 students. Determination of the sample was done by using cluster random sampling. There are two groups sampled in this study. They were the control group and the experimental group. Class VIII A (26 students) as the experimental group and class VIII C (28 students) as a control group. Calculation results of this analysis using SPSS 16. From the results of the calculations show that there is a significant difference from the value of the experimental group students' class and control group with the results of the experimental group posttest values control group 46.23 and 37.33. Subsequent t-test value is higher than the value of t-table, where the value of t-test is 4.260 and the ttable value is 1,674. From the above it can be concluded that learning by using SQ3R method can improve students' reading ability.
