Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine and describe the quality of English questions for 7th Grade Students of SMPN 5 Tarakan in the academic year 2019/2020. This research used a descriptive quantitative method. A total of 50 students were took as the research sample using sample ramdom sampling. The data in this study were in the form of question sheets and students answer sheets. The test question sheet consisted of 50 multiple choice questions. Answer sheets were needed for statistical analysis to determine the quality of the items based on question analysis, validity and difficulty level. The result of the data analysis showed that the English semester test questions were 22 items (44%) were valid questions and 28 items (56%) were invalid questions, and 7 items (14%) were at satisfactory validiity level, 19 items (38%) were at poor validity level, 24 items (48%) were at very bad validity level. And the results of difficulty level showed that 19 items (38%) were difficult questions, 22 items (44%) were moderate questions, and 9 items (18%) were easy questions. It was concluded that the items analyzed were classified as bad items because there were only 4 items that could be accepted or could be used without revision, 21 items had to be revised, andd 25 items had to be discarded.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan menggambarkan kualitas Butir Soal Bahasa Inggris Siswa Kelas VII SMPN 5 Tarakan tahun pelajaran 2019/2020. Metode penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kuantitatif. Peneliti menggunakan simple ramdom sampling untuk menentukan sampel. Peneliti mengambil 50 siswa untuk melakukan penelitian ini. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa lembar soal dan lembar jawaban siswa. Lembar soal tes terdiri dari 50 soal berbentuk pilihan ganda. Lembar jawaban diperlukan untuk analisis statistik untuk mengetahui kualitas butir soal berdasarkan analisis soal, validitas dan tingkat kesukaran. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa Soal Tes Semester Bahasa Inggris ditinjau dari indeks validitas terdapat 22 (44%) soal yang valid dan 28 (56%) soal yang tidak valid, dan jika di tinjau dari tingkat validitas terdapat 7 item (14%) tingkat validitas memuaskan, 19 item (38%) tingkat validitas buruk, 24 item (48%) tingkat validitas sangat buruk. Dan hasil tingkat kesukaran didapatkan 19 (38%) soal sulit, 22 (44%) soal sedang, dan 9 (18%) soal mudah. Berdasarkan temuan dan pembahasan diperoleh kesimpulan bahwa butir soal yang dianalisis termasuk dalam butir soal yang buruk karena, hanya terdapat 4 item yang dapat diterima atau dapat digunakan tanpa revisi, 21 item harus direvisi, dan 25 item harus dibuang.
