Abstract
Penelitian ini berfokus pada penggunaan gambar berseri dalam memfasilitasi kemampuan siswa dalam menulis teks prosedur. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penggunaan gambar berseri dalam menulis teks prosedur. Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan anggapan bahwa gambar berseri bisa meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa. Rancangan deskriptif digunakan dalam penelitian ini, data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner, wawancara, dan pengamatan untuk mendapatkan data yang saling terkait. Data dari tiga instrumen ini dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Untuk kuesioner dianalisis secara kuantitatif. Sementara itu, wawancara dan pengamatan dianalisis secara kualitatif. Lokasi sekolah yang digunakan untuk melaksanakan penelitian ini ialah MAN Tarakan kelas 1. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah cluster random sampling dan satu kelas yang terpilih sebagai sampel adalah X-2. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa 68% gambar berseri sangat memfasilitasi dan 32% memfasilitasi siswa dalam menulis teks prosedur. Selanjutnya, penggunaan gambar berseri dalam memfasilitasi kemampuan menulis siswa terutama pada teks prosedur juga didukung oleh tanggapan siswa dalam sesi wawancara. Sebagian besar siswa merasa mampu mengorganisasikan pikiranannya dalam menulis. Mereka merasa terfasilitasi melalui gambar berseri tersebut. Sehingga, kemampuan menulis mereka bisa meningkat. Peningkatan itu meliputi kosakata, pemahaman kalimat, dan ide yang kreatif. Dengan demikian, hasil analisis data mengindikasikan bahwa gambar berseri memberi beberapa keuntungan berdasarkan tujuh indikator dalam proses menulis teks prosedur seperti (1) terciptanya gambaran ide, (2) berkembangnya penguasaan kosakata, (3) berkembangnya kreatifitas berpikir, (4) kemampuan menyusun langkah-langkah teks prosedur, (5) kemampuan membuat kalimat, (6) kemampuan membuat paragaraf, (7) kemampuan mengolah generic structure teks prosedur. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, gambar berseri memberi pengaruh positif pada proses menulis siswa. Oleh karena itu, gambar berseri direkomendasikan untuk diterapkan sebagai media ajar dalam proses belajar mengajar, khususnya dalam menulis.
This study focused on the use of series of pictures in facilitating students’ ability in procedure writing process. The study was aimed at describing the use of picture series in writing procedure text process. This study was conducted based on the consideration that pictures can improve students’ writing ability. A descriptive design was used in this study, and the data were collected through questionnaire, interview and observation to gain relevant data. The data from these three instruments, questionnaire were analyzed quantitatively, while the interviews and observation were analyzed qualitatively. The sample of this study was determined by using cluster random sampling technique to take one class of five classes as a sample. The first grade students of a senior high school in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Tarakan were selected. There was one class as the sample and the class that became sample was X-2. From the findings, it was shown that 68% picture series most facilitating and 32% facilitating the students in writing procedure text. Furthermore, the use of picture series in facilitating students’ ability in writing procedure text was also supported by the students’ responses in the interview. Most of the students could organize their mind in writing. They felt facilitated through picture series, therefore their writing skills improved. The improvements were in terms of vocabularies, comprehensions and ideas. Therefore, the results of the data analysis indicated that series of pictures gave several benefits based on seven indicators in the process of writing procedure text such as (1) The Emergence of idea creation, (2) The Enlargement of vocabulary mastery, (3) The Development of creative thinking, (4) The ability of arranging the steps of procedure text, (5) The ability of making sentences, (6) The ability of making paragraph, (7) The ability of processing generic structure of procedure text. Based on the findings in this study, picture series had a positive influence on the students’ writing process. For that reason, picture series are recommended to be applied as teaching media in teaching and learning process, especially in writing.
