Abstract

Tipe penelitian ini adalah penelitian Quasi-eksperimen. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada efek yang signifikan dari penggunaan Teknik Jigsaw dalam pembelajaran pemahaman membaca teks naratif. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sebelas di SMA Frater Don Bosco Tarakan yang berjumlah 85 siswa. Sampel ditentukan dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Jumlah sampel adalah 59 siswa. Kelas XI-B (IPS-1) sebagai kelompok kontrol yang terdiri dari 28 siswa dan kelas XI-C (IPS-2) sebagai kelompok eksperimen yang terdiri dari 31 siswa. Tahap-tahap dalam penelitian ini adalah pretest, treatment dan posttest. Setelah diadakan pretest, ditemukan bahwa nilai rerata kelompok eksperimen adalah 65,16, sedangkan nilai rerata kelompok kontrol adalah 65,54. Selisih nilai adalah 0,38 poin. Peneliti menemukan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan membaca siswa di kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. Setelah pretest, perlakuan dilakukan. Kelompok eksperimen diajarakan reading comprehension tentang narrative text dengan menggunakan teknik Jigsaw, sedangkan kelompok kontrol dengan teknik TAI. Keduanya merupakan teknik dalam pembelajaran kooperatif. Setelah perlakuan, posttest dilaksanakan. Selanjutnya T-test dianalisis dengan bantuan SPSS 16 untuk windows. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang signifikan dari nilai siswa antara kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol setelah diberikan perlakuan. Nilai rerata kelompok eksperimen adalah 79,84 dan nilai rerata kelompok kontrol adalah 74,11. Selisih nilai adalah 5,73 poin. Hasil analisis data mengindikasikan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan dari nilai membaca siswa antara kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol. Selanjutnya dalam uji T-Test ditemukan bahwa nilai ttest lebih tinggi dari nilai t-table, dimana nilai t-test adalah 2,601 dan nilai t-table adalah 2,001. Selisihnya adalah 0,6. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa teknik jigsaw efektif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa.



The type of this research was Quasi-Experiment Research. This research aimed to investigate the significant effect of Jigsaw Technique in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of SMA Frater Don Bosco Tarakan consisted of 85 students. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling technique. The sample of this research was consisted of 59 students. Class XI-B (IPS-1) was as the control group consisted of 28 students and class XI-C (IPS-2) was as the experimental group consisted of 31 students. The stages in this research are pretest, treatment and posttest. After conducting pretest, it was found that the mean score of experimental group was only 65.16 while the mean score of control group was 65.54. The gain score was 0.38 points. The researcher found that there were not any significant differences reading skill between experimental and control group. After the pretest was done, the treatment was done. The researcher taught reading comprehension of recount text to the experimental group by using jigsaw technique and TAI technique to the control group. Both of techniques are cooperative learning technique. After the treatment, the posttest was done. Then T-Test was analyzed by using SPSS 16 for Windows. The result of the research showed that there were significant differences of students’ mean scores between the experimental and control groups after the treatment. The mean score of experimental group was 79.84 and the mean score of control group was 74.11. The gain score was 5.73 points. From the result of data analysis, it indicated that there was a significant difference on the students’ reading scores between control and experimental groups. Then in t-test analysis, it was found that the value of t-test was higher than the value of t-table where the score of t-test is 2.601 and the score for t-table is 2.001. The gain score was 0.6. Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that jigsaw technique is effective to improve the students’ reading comprehension.
