Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kondisi siswa yang merasa kesulitan dalam mengikuti pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, terutama untuk kelas X SMAN 3 Tarakan. Peneliti memfokuskan penelitian ini dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kesulitan yang sering di alami siswa dalam pelajaran bahasa inggris, upaya yang dilakukan siswa dalam mengatasi kesulitan yang mereka hadapi, dan mendeskripsikan upaya guru dalam mengatasi kesulitan yang dialami oleh siswa. Peneliti menganggap penting untuk mengetahui kesulitan sehingga mendapatkan solusi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif yang bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesulitan belajar bahasa ingris siswa. Untuk mengumpulkan data yang diperlukan peneliti melakukan observasi langsung ke sekolah SMAN 3 Tarakan, menyebar angket kepada siswa kelas X-IIS 1, dan melakukan wawancara kepada guru bahasa inggris. Dari hasil analisis data yang diperoleh dari kegiatan observasi, peneliti dapat menyimpulkan bahwa kemampuan berbahasa inggris siswa termasuk kategori kurang. Dari hasil analisis data angket, peneliti menemukan beberapa permasalahan yang menyebabkan siswa kesulitan belajar bahasa inggris, yakni siswa masih menganggap salah satu pelajaran yang sulit di pelajari, kurangnya siswa mempraktekkan bahasa inggris, Dan dengan didukung data hasil wawancara, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa kesulitan belajar yang dialami siswa disebabkan oleh metode pembelajaran guru yang tidak sesuai dengan kondisi dan harapan siswa.


This research was based upon the condition of the students who had difficulties in learning English, especially for grade X SMAN 3 Tarakan. The researchers focused on study with the aim to describe the difficulties often experienced by the students in English class, the students in the efforts to overcome the difficulties they faced, and describe the efforts of teacher in overcoming the difficulties experienced by the students. The researchers considered it importantly in order to know the difficulties so as to get a solution. The method used in this research was descriptive method with qualitative approach that aimed to analyze the students' English language learning difficulties. The instrument used in this study is the researchers to collect the necessary data directly to the researchers conducted observations of the school SMAN 3 Tarakan, distributed a questionnaires to students of class X-IIS 1, and conducted interviews to English teachers. From the analysis of data obtained from observation, the researcher can conclude that the English proficiency of students was included the poor category. From the analysis of questionnaire data, the researcher found in several problems that caused students’ difficulties in learning English, The students still consider English as the difficult lesson to learn. the lack of students practicing English. That result was data from interviews, the researcher concluded that the learning difficulties experienced cause by the student teacher learning method that does not comply with the conditions was coused by the teaching method that wasn’t appropriate with expectations of students.
