Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan secara faktual penggunaan teknik Two Stay – Two Stray dalam mengajar berbicara pada siswa kelas sembilan di SMP Negeri 6 Tarakan. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru bahasa inggris kelas sembilan di SMP Negeri 6 Tarakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan alat instrumen pengumpulan data yaitu dokumen, observasi ceklist, catatan lapangan dan wawancara. Data yang didapatkan lalu dianalisis dengan menggunakan model analisis Miles & Huberman. Berdasarkan hasil dari keempat instrumen dalam menggumpulkan data tersebut, ditemukan bahwa penggunaan teknik Two Stay – Two Stray dalam mengajar berbicara pada siswa kelas sembilan termasuk dalam kategori baik. Dalam hasil observasi dan catatan lapangan selama tiga kali pertemuan, didapatkan dari tiga observer bahwa penggunaan teknik Two Stay – Two Stray dalam mengajar berbicara pada siswa kelas IX-B yang dilakukan oleh guru bahasa inggris adalah baik. Dalam persiapan pengajaran, guru menyiapkan segala komponen rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran and isinya sesuai dengan materi yang akan diajarkan. Ini didukung dengan indikator penggunaan teknik pengajaran seperti guru tidak menggunakan semua langkah-langkah teknik pengajaran dengan sesuai, guru bisa mengkontrol kelas, dan siswa tidak terlalu aktif selama proses mengajar. Hasil ini juga didukung dengan hasil wawancara. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan teknik Two Stay – Two Stray dalam mengajar berbicara pada siswa kelas sembilan sesuai dengan teori teknik Two Stay – Two Stray dan efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa.



This was a qualitative descriptive research. The objective of this study is to describe factually about the use of Two Stay - Two Stray techniques in teaching speaking for ninth grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Tarakan. The subject of this research was the English teacher at ninth grade of SMP Negeri 6 Tarakan. This research used data colleting instruments which were documents, observation checklist, field notes and interview. The data obtained were analyzed using a model analysis of Miles & Huberman. Based on the result of four instruments in collecting data, it is found that the use of Two Stay - Two Stray techniques in teaching speaking for ninth grade students was in good category. In the observations and field notes results for three meetings, it was obtained from three observer that the use of Two Stay - Two Stray techniques in teaching speaking for IX-B students was well-done by the English teacher. In teaching preparation, the teacher prepared all the components of lesson plan and the contents of lesson plan was appropriate with the material being taught. It is supported by the indicators of implementing teaching technique such as the teacher did not use all the steps in teaching technique properly, the teacher can control the classroom management, and the students were not too active during teaching process. These results were also supported with the interview result. It can be concluded that the use of Two Stay - Two Stray techniques in teaching speaking for the ninth grade students is appropriate with the theories of Two Stay – Two Stray technique and effective in improving students' speaking skills.
