Abstract
The 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child regulates that every government must do its best to ensure that every child in their countries can enjoy their rights. It includes their rights to access information and their freedom of expression. Consequently, as one of the state parties to the convention, Indonesia must provide regulations about the fulfillment of children's rights. In the Indonesian legal system, currently, several national rules cover the protection of children's rights. Hence, this study examines Indonesia's existing media law and its implementation to protect children's rights, specifically from the media's harmful content. This study uses normative juridical research with a legislative approach. With more than 30 million children use media heavily, the country must closely monitor what those media bring to children's attention and provide detailed rules and regulations for the media company, institutions, and parents to follow.
