Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan implementasi dari model Think Pair Share dalam pemahaman membaca pada materi teks report pada siswa kelas sembilan di SMP Frater Don Bosco Tarakan yang berlokasi di Jalan Patimura, Markoni Tarakan. Subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah guru Bahasa Inggris kelas sembilan di SMP Frater Don Bosco Tarakan. Siswa diberikan materi pelajaran tentang teks report dengan menggunakan model Think Pair Share. Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini menggambarkan secara faktual implementasi model Think Pair Share dalam pengajaran keterampilan membaca pada materi teks report pada siswa kelas Sembilan di SMP Frater Don Bosco Tarakan dengan menggunakan instrumen dokumen, lembar observasi dan wawancara. Data yang didapatkan lalu dianalisis dengan menggunakan model analisis aliran Miles & Huberman. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa guru menyiapkan dokumen-dokumen sebelum proses belajar mengajar seperti silabus dan rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran (RPP) yang akan diimplementasikan ke siswa. Beberapa siswa dapat bekerjasama dan saling menolong satu sama lain selama implementasi model Think Pair Share dan siswa yang lainnya bekerja sendiri. Siswa dapat mengerti materi ketika mereka berdiskusi dengan pasangan mereka untuk menjawab tes tertulis dan sebagian besar siswa mencapai kriteria ketuntasan minimum. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa implementasi model Think Pair Share yang dilakukan oleh guru bahasa inggris SMP Frater Don Bosco Tarakan dalam mengajar pemahaman membaca pada teks report termasuk dalam kategori biasa. Hasil tersebut didukung dengan pembenaran yang peneliti jabarkan pada aspek persiapan mengajar, proses mengajar dan dalam melakukan evaluasi ke siswa.

The objective of this research was to describe the implementation of Think Pair Share model in teaching reading on report text at ninth grade students of SMP Frater Don Bosco Tarakan located on Jalan Patimura, Markoni Tarakan. The subject of this research was the English teacher at the ninth grade of SMP Frater Don Bosco Tarakan. The students were taught report text material through Think Pair Share as teaching model. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative research. It described factually about the implementation of Think Pair Share model in teaching reading on report text at the ninth grade students of SMP Frater Don Bosco Tarakan by using some instruments: document analysis, observation sheet and interview guide. The data obtained were analyzed using a model analysis of Miles & Huberman. The results of this research showed that teacher prepared the documents before the teaching learning process such as syllabus and lesson plan that teacher implemented to the students. Some students could work together and helped each other during the implementation of Think Pair Share model and the other students worked individually. Students could comprehend the material when they discussed together with their partner to answer the written test and most of students achieved minimum criteria of success. It can be concluded that the quality of English teacher in implementing Think Pair Share model in teaching reading comprehension on report text in SMP Frater Don Bosco Tarakan was moderate. It was supported by the justification that the researcher elaborated in aspect of teaching preparation, teaching process and conducting the evaluation to students.
