Abstract
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan skill berbicara siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Prosedur penelitian ini terbagi dalam dua sesi yaitu, Studi Pendahuluan dan Langka Tindakan Penelitian. Penelitian ini memiliki empat langkah yaitu; perencanaan, pengimplementasian, observasi, dan refleksi. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan berupa lembar observasi dan performance test. Kriteria keberhasilan dalam penelitian ini adalah saat 70% siswa mencapai level baik dalam kualifikasi untuk tiap elemen berbicara dan untuk guru dapat mencapai setidaknya level cukup dari observasi aktifitas guru. Hasil penelitian ini, nilai guru aktifitas guru pada pertemuan pertemuan pertama adalah 86.71 dan meningkat dipertemuan kedua menjadi 95.31 dan hasil rata-ratanya adalah 91.01. Ini menunjukan bahwa ada peningkatan dalam aktifitas guru saat proses belajar dan pembelajaran. Berdasarkan hasil rata-rata tersebut, guru telah mencapai kriteria keberhasilan penelitian ini. Peningkatan pencapaian siswa juga didukung oleh skor performance mereka. Terdapat 82.85% siswa mencapai level baik, jadi ini bisa dikatakan bahwa implementasi dari Audio-Lingual Method telah berhasil dan mencapai kriteria keberhasilan. Ini membuktikan bahwa Audio-Lingual Method dapat meningkatkan skill berbicara siswa.
The objective of the research is to improve students’ speaking skill through Audio-Lingual Method at the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan in academic year 2014/2015. The research is classified as Classroom Action Research. The research procedure of this research was consisted of two sections; Preliminary Study and Action Research Steps. This action research consists of four steps activities in the cycle there are; planning, implementing, observation, and reflecting. The research instruments of this research are observation sheets and performance test. The criteria of success in this research is when 70% of the students reach at least the level good of speaking qualification for each language element when they perform in front of the class and for the teacher, it will be success if the teacher get at least the level fair or get 70 score from the observation sheet. The result of this research is the teacher’s activity in the first meeting was 86.71 and improved in the second meeting with the result 95.31 and the mean score was 91.01. This showed that there was improvement in the teacher’s activity during teaching and learning process. Based on the mean score above, the teacher has already reached the criteria of success that was decided by the researcher and the teacher collaborator. The enhancement of students’ speaking achievement is also supported by the result of the role play score. There were 82.85% students reached good level, so it can be said that the implementation of Audio-Lingual Method was successful and met the criteria of success. It was proven that the use of Audio-Lingual Method in teaching can improve the students’ speaking skill.
