
The Correlation Between Learning Style And English Achievement Of The Tenth Grade Students At SMAN 1 Tarakan

Abstract
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gaya belajar dominan di SMA Negeri 1 Tarakan dan mengetahui hubungan antara gaya belajar dengan hasil belajar. Gaya belajar diidentifikasi berdasarkan kuisioner, wawancara dan dokumen berupa daftar nilai siswa yang didapatkan dari guru mata pelajaran bahasa inggris. Sampel diambil sebanyak 77 siswa dari 912 siswa SMAN 1 Tarakan dengan menggunakan purposive stratified random sampling. Terdapat 28 siswa (36%) yang termasuk visual, 21 siswa (27%) mempunyai gaya belajar auditori, 13 siswa (17%) memiliki gaya belajar kinestetik, 4 siswa (5%) mempunyai gaya belajar viual auditori, 4 siswa (5%) memiliki gaya belajar visual kinestetik, 4 siswa (5%) mempunyai gaya belajar auditori kinestetik, 3 siswa (4%) mempunyai gaya belajar visual auditori kinestetik. Hasil penelitian mengenai hubungan antara gaya belajar dengan hasil belajar bahasa inggris pada siswa kelas sepuluh di SMAN 1 Tarakan: (1) gaya belajar yang paling banyak digunakan oleh siswa adalah visual (2) Ada hubungan sempurna antara gaya belajar dengan hasil belajar kelas sepuluh SMAN 1 Tarakan. Koefisien berkorelasi negatif atau tidak positif sehingga tidak significant namun tetap mendefinisikan terdapat korelasi. Itu terlihat pada uji SPSS, bahkan ada variable yang menghasilkan korelasi sempurna negative (-0.01) maka hubungan tersebut disebut sebagai korelasi sempurna atau hubungan linear sempurna dengan kemiringan (slope) negatif.
The objectives of this research is to know the dominant learning style at SMA Negeri 1 Tarakan and to know is there any correlation between learning style and English achievement of the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Tarakan. Learning style identified by the questionnaire and interview, while document that is the list of score of English achievement was got from the English teacher. The sample total is 77 students from 912 students with purposive stratified random sampling. there were 28 students (36%) has visual learning style, 21 students (27%) has auditory learning style, 13 students (17%) has kinesthetic learning style, 4 students (5%) has visual auditory learning style, 4 students (5%) has visual kinesthetic learning style, 4 students (5%) has auditory kinesthetic learning style, 3 students (4%) has visual auditory kinesthetic learning style. The result of the research about the correlation between learning style and English achievement of the tenth grade students at SMAN 1 Tarakan (1) the most learning style used by the students is visual learning style, (2) there is a perfect correlation between learning style and English achievement of the tenth grade students at SMAN 1 Tarakan Coefficient correlate negative or not positive so there is no significant but there is a correlation. It seen on the result of SPSS test, even there is a variable which obtain the perfect negative correlation (-0.01) so there is a perfect correlation or there is a perfect linear correlation with the negative slope
