Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan silabus pengajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk mahasiswa jurusan Budidaya Perairan (BDP) Universitas Borneo Tarakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian pengembangan. Tahapan pengembangan meliputi analisis kebutuhan, pengembangan silabus menggunakan model Richards (a course rationale, describing the entry and exit level, choosing course content, determining the scope and sequence and planning course structure), validasi ahli, revisi dan evaluasi, uji coba silabus, dan revisi dan evaluasi. Untuk mengumpulkan informasi yang dibutuhkan dalam perancangan silabus ini, sebanyak 26 mahasiswa semester tiga lokal B jurusan BDP diminta untuk menjawab dua puluh pertanyaan yang terdapat dalam kuisioner. Dosen Bahasa Inggris jurusan BDP diwawancara dengan tujuan yang sama. Silabus terdiri dari: (1) identitas mata kuliah, (2) SK (Standar Kompetensi), (3) KD (Kompetensi Dasar), (4) indikator pembelajaran, (5) topik/sub topik, (6) materi pembelajaran, (7) aktivitas pembelajaran, (8) alokasi waktu, (9) penilaian, (10) media dan (11) sumber. Silabus ini divalidasi oleh para ahli, yaitu dosen jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris untuk mencocokkan kesesuaian dari desain dan juga unsur kebahasaan dari silabus untuk para mahasiswa BDP, dan dosen dari jurusan BDP untuk mencocokkan isi dari silabus untuk mahasiswa jurusan BDP. Revisi dilakukan berdasarkan saran, kritik, koreksi dari para ahli dan kemudian silabus ini diujicobakan kepada mahasiswa jurusan BDP Universitas Borneo Tarakan.Hasil akhir pengembangan ini berupa silabus pengajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk mahasiswa jurusan BDP di Universitas Borneo Tarakan dilengkapi dengan contoh rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran (RPP) dan contoh materi yang terdapat di dalam silabus. Materi yang dibahas adalah yang berkaitan dengan minat dan kebutuhan mahasiswa dalam belajar Bahasa Inggris.



The study was conducted to propose an English syllabus for students of Aquaculture (BDP) Department of Borneo University Tarakan. This research employed Research and Development (R&D) design. The procedures of this Research and Development (R&D) were needs analysis, product development applied Richards model (a course rationale, describing the entry and exit level, choosing course content, determining the scope and sequence and planning course structure), expert validation, revision and evaluation, try-out the product, and revision and evaluation. To obtain the information needed as a base for designing English syllabus, 26 students of local B of BDP Department were asked to answer twenty questions in questionnaire. English lecturer of BDP Department was also interviewed with same purposes. The proposed English syllabus was based on information gained from students and English lecturer of BDP Department and relevant observation sheet. The syllabus contained: (1) course identity, (2) standard competence, (3) basic competence, (4) indicators, (5) topic/sub topic, (6) learning materials, (7) learning activities, (8) time allocation, (9) assessment, (10) media and (11) sources. It was validated by two experts. They were the lecturer from English Department to check the appropriateness of the design and languages of the syllabus for the BDP students, and the lecturer from BDP Department to check the appropriateness of the syllabus content with the students’ field. Revision and evaluation were conducted based on suggestions, critics, and comments by experts and then the English syllabus was tried-out. The result of this research and development was a set of English syllabus for students of BDP Department of Borneo University Tarakan completed with some lesson plans and instuctional materials included in the product. The materials in this proposed English syllabus is dealing with students’ wants and needs in learning English.
