
Improving Students’ Speaking Skill Through Communicative Language Teaching At Second Grade Of SMP Negeri 4 Tarakan

Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa melalui metode Communicative Language Teaching. Sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian,maka metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek dari penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas VIII-1 SMP Negeri 4 Tarakan tahun ajaran 2015/2016 yang terdiri dari 36 siswa. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari sampai bulan February 2016. Di dalam penelitian ini, peneliti bertindak sebagai guru. Pada penelitian ini, ada dua siklus dari penelitian tindakan kelas. Kemudian, berdasarkan hasil observasi yang dilakukan selama implementasi, siswa sudah menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan berbicara mereka. Hasil penelitian metode ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berbicara siswa meningkat sebagaimana yang ditunjukkan pada hasil tes mereka. Kriteria keberhasilan pada penelitian ini didasarkan pada kriteria ketuntasan minimum sekolah yang sudah ditentukan, yaitu 75 dan penelitian ini berhasil apabila didalam kelas ada 75% siswa yang lulus dalam pelajaran tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil tes pada siklus pertama ditemukan bahwa ada 16 siswa yang berhasil (44%) dan pada siklus kedua ada 25 siswa (77%) yang mencapai kriteria ketuntasan. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan berbicara siswa melalui Communicative Language Teaching meningkat.
The objective of this research was to improve students’ speaking skill through Communicative Language Teaching. Related to the purpose of the research, the research method which used in this study was classroom action research. The subject of the research was students of class VIII-1 of SMPN 4 Tarakan in academic year 2015/2016 consisting of 36 students. In this research the researcher was as the teacher. The researcher conducted two cycles of action research. Then, based on the result of observation, it was found that during the study, the students have showed their improvement. The result of the study showed that after the research was conducted, the students’ ability on speaking skill could be improve as shown in the result of their test result. The criteria of success of this research depend on the minimum score of the school that have been determined. It was 75 and the research would be successful if in the class there were 75% of students have passed minimum score. Based on the test in the first cycle, it was found that 16 students succeeded or 44% and improved to 77% or 25 students succeeded in the second cycle test. Therefore, it can be concluded that student’ ability on speaking skill can be improved through Communicative Language Teaching.
