Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan prestasi membaca siswa dalam teks deskriptif melalui teknik Mind Mapping. Sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian, maka metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek dari penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas VIII SMP Negeri 10 Tarakan tahun ajaran 2015/2016 yang terdiri dari 29 siswa. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilakukan pada bulan awal bulan November sampai akhir bulan November 2015. Di dalam penelitian ini, peneliti bertindak sebagai observer dan guru kolaborator bertindak sebagai guru yang mengajar reading skill dengan menggunakan teknik Mind Mapping. Peneliti melaksanakan dua siklus Penelitian Tindakan Kelas dengan menggunakan lembar observasi dan tes sebagai instrumen penelitian. Hasil dari tindakan menunjukkan bahwa setelah peneliti melakukan tindakan, prestasi membaca siswa dalam teks deskriptif menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dibandingkan siklus pertama sebagaimana yang ditunjukkan pada hasil tes siswa dari kedua siklus dan didukung dari data hasil observasi pada aspek afektif dan psikomotor. Hasil observasi menunjukkan bahwa aspek afektif dan psikomotor sangat berpengaruh pada prestasi membaca siswa. Kriteria keberhasilan pada penelitian ini juga tergantung pada KKM sekolah yang sudah ditentukan, yaitu 75 dan penelitian ini berhasil apabila didalam kelas ada 75% siswa yang lulus pada pelajaran tersebut. Berdasarkan hasil tes pada siklus pertama ditemukan bahwa ada 13 siswa berhasil atau 45% dari 75% kriteria kelulusan dan meningkat sampai 79% atau 23 siswa telah berhasil pada tes siklus kedua. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa implementasi teknik Mind Mapping mampu meningkatkan prestasi membaca siswa dalam teks deskriptif.


The objective of this research was to improve students’ reading achievement on descriptive text by using Mind Mapping Technique. Related to he purpose of the research, the research method used in this research was class action research. The subject of the research was the students of class VIII of SMP Negeri 10 Tarakan in the academic year 2015/2016 consisting of 29 students. The action research was conducted from early November to the end of November 2015. In this research, the researcher was the observer and the teacher collaborator was a teacher who taught reading skill by using Mind Mapping Technique. The researcher conducted two cycle of classroom action research with used observation sheet and test as the instrument. The result of the action showed that after the researcher conducted the action, the students’ reading achievement on descriptive had shown in increase rather than the first cycle that showed in students’ test result in both cycle and the data were supported by the result of observation from cognitive aspect and psychomotor aspect. The result of observation showed cognitive aspect and psychomotor aspect was very influenced for the students’ reading achievement. The criteria of success of this research depends on the minimum score of the school that have been determined, it was 75 and the research would be successful if in the class there were 75% of students have reached the minimum score. Based on the test in the first cycle was found that there were 13 students who succeeded or 45% from 75% criteria of success. Then, it improved to 79% or 23 students who were successful in the second cycle test. So, it can be concluded that the implementation of Mind Mapping technique was able to improve the students’ reading achievement on descriptive text.
