The objective of this research was to investigate the significant effect of literature in teaching reading comprehension at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bunyu. The design of this research was pre-experimental research. Population in this research was all of the students in eighth grade students in SMP Negeri 1 Bunyu. Purposive sampling technique was chosen to determine the sample. The sample was class 8.2 consisting of 24 students. The research instrument was reading test. The research result shows that there was significant difference of the students’ score between pre-test and post-test scores after the treatment. It was proven with the mean score and t-test. The mean score of post-test was higher than pre-test. The mean score of the post-test was 79.58 and the mean score of the pre-test was 52.91. The finding of the research shows that based on the t test result, obtained the value of tcount= -10.254 and Ttable with df= 24-1= 23 on significance level 5% or 0.05 that was 2.069. The result of Tcount is higher than Ttable (-10.254 > -2.062). To sum up, there is significant effect in teaching reading comprehension by using literature at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Bunyu.
