Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan penggunaan Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Approach yang digunakan oleh guru Bahasa Inggris dalam mengajar keterampilan berbicara di SMP Mulawarman Tarakan pada tahun ajaran 2016/2017. Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMP Mulawarman Tarakan pada taun ajaran 2016/2017. Subjek penelitian ini adalah guru Bahasa Inggris pada kelas VIII-a di SMP Mulawarman Tarakan. Desain penelitian ini adalah penelititan deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini menggambarkan secara fakta tentang Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Approach yang digunakan oleh guru Bahasa inggris dalam pengajaran berbicara pada siswa kelas Delapan di SMP Mulawarman Tarakan. Data dikumpulkan melalui dokumen analisis, catatan lapangan, dan pedoman wawancara. Data yang didapatkan lalu dianalisa dengan menggunakan model analisa dari Miles & Huberman. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru menyiapkan dokumen-dokumen sebelum proses belajar mengajar seperti silabus dan rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran (RPP) yang akan guru implementasikan kepada siswa. Ada beberapa aspek dari RPP yang tidak sesuai dengan silabus dan proses pembelajaran, dari indikator dengan tujuan pembelajaran, materi, dan juga penilaian. Dari interview, peneliti menemukan bagaimana cara implementasi dari CLT approach dan observasi kelas, dalam proses pembelajaran pada keterampilan berbahasa, guru menggunakan 3 dari 4 metode dari pendekatan CLT yaitu language games, picture strip story, dan role play. Role play di pertemuan pertama dan keempat, pertemuan kedua menggunakan picture strip story dan pertemuan ketiga menggunakan language games. Implementasi dari pendekatan CLT dalam proses pembelajaran dikelas berbicara, murid menjadi aktif dan termotivasi untuk berbicara dan siswa dapat berbicara secara natural, walaupun beberapa murid masih bermasalah dengan kosakata, dan pengucapan. Dengan ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa implementasi Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Aprroach yang guru Bahasa inggris lakukan SMP Mulawarman Tarakan, guru menggunakan 3 dari 4 teknik dalam CLT Approach. Hasilnya siswa dapat berbicara secara alami, mereka juga tertarik untuk terlibat dalam proses belajar mengajar, karena CLT Approach memberikan kegiatan yang interaktif, seperti permainan dan penggunaan gambar.

The objective of this research was to describe the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Approach used by the English teacher in teaching speaking at the Eighth Grade students of SMP Mulawarman Tarakan Academic Year 2016/2017. This research was conducted at SMP Mulawarman Tarakan in academic year 2016/2017. The participant of this research was the English teacher at the eighth grade students of SMP Mulawarman Tarakan class VIII-a. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative research. It described factually about the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Approach used by the English teacher in teaching speaking at the eighth grade students of SMP Mulawarman Tarakan. The data were collected through document analysis, field note, and interview guide. The data obtained were analyzed using a flow model analysis of Miles and Huberman. The result of this research showed that the teacher prepared the documents before teaching learning process such as syllabus and lesson plan that teacher implemented to the students, there were some aspects from lesson plans not suitable with the syllabus and teaching process, there are the indicators and learning objective, learning material and the assessment. From the interview, researcher found the way how to implement CLT approach and classroom observation, in teaching speaking the teacher applied 3 from 4 method in CLT approach in the form of language games, picture strip stories and role play. Role play was applied in the first and fourth meeting, second meeting was picture strip stories and third meeting was language games. The implementation of CLT approach in the process of teaching and learning process in speaking class, the student are active and motivated to speak and the students speak naturally, although some students still had problem with their vocabulary, and pronunciation. It can be concluded that implementation of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) Approach that the English teacher used of SMP Mulawarman Tarakan in teaching speaking, the teacher used 3 from 4 method in CLT Approach. As the result the students speak naturally, they are interesting to involve in the process of teaching and learning, because CLT approach provides interactive activities, such as game or using picture in the class.
