Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat perbedaan signifikan dalam keterampilan membaca siswa sebelum dan sesudah menggunakan Comic Strips Media dalam pengajaran recount text di SMP Negeri 1 Tanjung Palas. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian Pre-Experimental. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa dari kelas VIII di SMP Negeri 1 Tanjung Palas. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII-3. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 32 siswa. Penentuan sampel dilakukan dengan cara teknik purposive sampling. Kelas yang diberi perlakuan berjumlah 32 siswa. Tahap-tahap dalam penelitian ini adalah pretest, treatment, dan posttest. Pada tahap pretest siswa diminta untuk mengerjakan soal reading test. Setelah pretest, peneliti memberikan treatment. Kelas yang diberi perlakuan diajarkan meggunakan Comic Strips Media. Setelah diberikan treatment, siswa diminta untuk mengerjakan soal reading test pada tahap posttest. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan paired samplet-test dalam aplikasi 22.0. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan nilai rata-rata dalam pretest dan posttest. Ini dibuktikan melalui hasil nilai rata-rata siswa dari pretest adalah 48.00 dan 64.63 pada hasil posttest. Ini berarti terdapat peningkatan nilai rata-rata sebesar 16.625. Hasil dari Paired Sample t-test yaitu 8.146 lebih besar dari angka t-table yaitu 2.040. Itu berarti keterampilan membaca siswa dalam teks recount text mengalami peningkatan setelah diberikan perlakuan. Hasil dari perbandingan sig (2 tailed) 0.000 lebih kecil dari 0.05, itu berarti bahwa Comic Strips Media dapat memberikan kontribusi pada keterampilan membaca siswa. Berdasarkan penjelasan di atas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan Comic Strips Media efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan membaca siswa dalam recount text.


This research objective was to find out whether there was any significant difference in students’ reading skill before and after being taught using Comic Strips media in learning recount text at Eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Tanjung Palas. The design of this research was Pre-Experimental research. The population in this research was all of the eighth grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Tanjung Palas. The sample in this research was 32 students. The sample was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. It consisted of 32 students. The steps in this research were pretest, treatment, and posttest. In the pretest, the students were asked to answer the reading test. After giving the pretest, the researcher gave treatment. The treatment class was taught by using Comic Strips media. After giving the treatment, students were asked to answer the reading test in posttest. In analyzing the data, the researcher used paired sample t-test in SPSS 22.0. The result of this research showed that there was different mean score in pretest and posttest. It was proven by te result of the students’ mean score from pretest was 48.00 and 64.63 in the posttest. It means that the improvement of the students’ mean score was 16.625. The result of Paired Sample t-test was 8.146 higher than t-table was 2.040. It means that the students’ reading skill in recount text have an improvement after giving the treatment. The result of sig (2 tailed) 0.000 is lower than 0.05, it means that the Comic Strips media can give any contribution to the students’ reading skill. Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that using Comic Strips Media is effetive to improve student’s reading skill in recount text.
