Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan prestasi siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif dengan menggunakan strategi Think Talk Write (TTW). Sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian, maka metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek dari penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas VIII-8 SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan tahun ajaran 2016/ 2017 yang terdiri dari 33 siswa. Penelitian ini dimulai dari bulan Juli sampai bulan Agustus 2016. Peneliti melakukan penelitian dalam dua siklus. Tiap siklus terdiri dari tiga pertemuan. Setiap siklus terdiri atas perencanaan, tindakan, observasi dan refleksi. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengambil data adalah tes menulis dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan strategi Think Talk Write (TTW) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa. Pada siklus pertama, hasil tes menulis siswa adalah sebanyak 48% atau 16 siswa yang mencapai KKM dan 52% atau 17 siswa tidak mencapai KKM. Pada siklus kedua, terjadi peningkatan hasil belajar siswa sebanyak 79% atau 26 siswa mencapai KKM dan hanya 21% atau 7 siswa yang tidak mencapai KKM. Selain itu, hasil observasi guru dan siswa juga mengalami peningkatan pada siklus kedua. Hasil observasi guru di siklus pertama memperoleh skor rata-rata 69,8 dan meningkat menjadi 86,2 pada siklus kedua. Skor rata-rata hasil observasi aktivitas siswa pada siklus pertama yaitu 57,4 dan meningkat menjadi 72,1 pada siklus kedua. Maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan strategi Think Talk Write (TTW) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis pada siswa kelas VIII-8 SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan tahun ajaran 2016/ 2017.

The objective of this research was to improve students’ writing achievement in descriptive text by using Think Talk Write (TTW) strategy. Related to the purpose of the research, the research method used in this research was classroom action research (CAR). The subject of the research was the students at class VIII-8 of SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan in academic year 2016/ 2017 that consisted of 33 students. The research was conducted from July to August 2016. The researcher conducted the research in two cycles, where in each cycle consisted of three meetings. Each cycle consisted of four steps: planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The instruments used to collect the data were writing test and observation sheet. The result of this research showed that the use of Think Talk Write (TTW) strategy could improve students’ writing achievement. In the first cycle, there were 48% or 16 students who passed the minimum passing grade, and the rest 52% or 17 students did not pass the minimum passing grade. There was improvement in second cycle, 79% or 26 students passed the minimum passing grade, and only 21% or 7 students who did not pass the minimum passing grade. Besides, the teacher’s and students’ observation result also increased in second cycle. The mean score of teacher’s observation result in the first cycle was 69,8, and increased became 86,2 in second cycle. The mean score of students’ observation result was 57,4 in the first cycle and increased became 72,1 in second cycle. It can be concluded that the use of Think Talk Write (TTW) strategy could improve students’ writing achievement at class VIII-8 of SMP Negeri 5 Tarakan in academic year 2016/ 2017.
