Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) dalam memaknai teks bacaan bagi siswa kelas delapan MTs Negeri Tarakan pada tahun ajaran 2017/2018. Metode penelitian ini adalah quasi experimental. Sample diambil dengan menggunakan purposive sampling technique. Ada dua kelas yang diambil sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini. Kelas eksperimen diajarkan menggunakan metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) sedangkan kelas kontrol diajarkan dengan menggunakan metode ceramah. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes tertulis. Data yang dianalisis adalah data nilai hasil pretest dan posttest dari kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan independent sample Ttest dengan SPSS 23.0.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata – rata kelas eksperimen adalah 78.58 dan nilai rata – rata kelas kontrol adalah 67.95. Tidak hanya hasil dari independent sample Ttest pada tingkat signifikansi 0.05 level, tetapi juga nilai Ttable dan Ttest. Nilai Ttable adalah 2.002 dan nilai Ttest adalah 2.651. Hal ini mennunjukkan bahwa Ttest lebih tinggi dari pada nilai Ttable (2.651 > 2.002). Dengan kata lain, hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima. Hasil analisis data membuktikan bahwa hasil pengajaran menggunakan Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan menggunakan metode ceramah. Berdasarkan hasil diatas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) memberikan dampak dalam meningkatkan kemampuan siswa kelas VIII MTs Negeri Tarakan dalam memaknai suatu teks bacaan.

The objective of this research is to find out the effect of using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method on the students in teaching reading at eighth grade students of MTs Negeri Tarakan. The method of this research was quasi experimental. The samples were taken by using purposive sampling technique. There were two classes as the samples of this research. The experimental class was taught by using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method and control class was taught by using lecture method. The instrument of this research was writing test. The analyzed data was from pretest and posttest of the experimental class and control class. In analyzing the data, the researcher used independent sample T test with SPSS 23.0. The result of the research showed that the mean score of experimental class was 78.58 and the mean score of control class was 67.95. Not only the result of the independent sample Ttest which was the probably value was less than level significant (0.010 < 0.05), but also the value of Ttable and Ttest. Ttable value was 2.002. and Ttest was 2.651. It indicates that the value of Ttest was higher than Ttable (2.651 > 2.002). In other words, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The result of the analysis data result proves that taught by using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method was higher than teaching using lecture method. Based on the result above, it can be concluded that Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method gives an effect on improving the students reading comprehension of MTs Negeri Tarakan.
