Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan sebelum dan sesudah implementasi teknik reciprocal teaching terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa pada kelas sepuluh SMA Muhammadiyah Tarakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain Penelitian Quasi-Experimental. Desain penelitian eksperimen semu menggunakan dua kelas diajarkan dengan dua teknik yang berbeda. Kelas eksperimen diajarkan dengan teknik reciprocal teaching, dan kelas kontrol diajarkan dengan explicit instruction. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Muhammadiyah Tarakan pada tahun akademik 2016/2017. Purposive Sampling telah dipilih dalam menentukan sampel, dan sampel yang terpilih adalah X-2 dan X-3 yang berjumlah 59 siswa. Instrumen penelitian ini adalah tes yang terdiri dari 30 soal pilihan ganda. Teknik dalam pengumpulan data peneliti memberikan pretest dan posttest. Pretest diberikan sebelum perlakuan dan kemudian posttest diberikan setelah perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan dari nilai siswa antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol setelah diberikan perlakuan. Hal tersebut dibuktikan dengan nilai rata-rata dan t-test. Nilai rata-rata di kelas eksperimen adalah 75.03 dan nilai rata-rata di kelas kontrol adalah 68.87. hal tersebut berarti nilai dari rata-rata di kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi daripada kelas kontrol. Selanjutnya, hasil menghitung t-test ditemukan bahwa nilai t-test lebih tinggi daripada nilai t-table (2.360 > 1.672). Kesimpulannya adalah teknik reciprocal teaching efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca pada siswa kelas X di SMA Muhammadiyah Tarakan.

The objective of this research was to determine whether before and after the teacher’s implementation of Reciprocal Teaching Technique on students’ reading comprehension at tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Tarakan. The design of this research was Quasi-Experimental Research. The quasiexperimental research designed were used two classes which were taught two different techniques. The experiment class was taught with reciprocal teaching technique, and control class was taught with explicit instruction. Population in this research was all of the students at tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Tarakan in the academic year of 2016/2017. Purposive sampling was chosen to determine the sample. The samples were X-2 and X-3 which consisted of 59 students. The instrument of this research was test which consist of 30 multiple choice items. The material of the test was narrative text. The technique of collecting data the researcher gave pretest and posttest. Pre-test is used before do the treatment, and then post test is used after do the treatment. The research result shows that there was significant difference of the students’ score between experiment class and control class after treatment. It was proven with the mean score and t-test. The mean score of experiment class was 75.03 and the mean score of control class was 68.87. It means that the value of mean score of experiment class were higher than control class. Then, the result from the calculation of t-test shows that the value of t-test was higher than the value of t-table on the significant level 0.05 (2.360 > 1.672). This result could be concluded that the reciprocal teaching technique was effective in improving the students’ reading comprehension at tenth grade students of SMA Muhammadiyah Tarakan.
