Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan dari penggunaan teknik Concept Sentence dan teknik Mind Mapping dalam meningkatkan nilai tulisan siswa dalam teks deskriptif. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian kuasi eksperimental. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh kelas VII di SMPN 10 Tarakan. Jumlah populasi adalah 5 kelas. Jumlah sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 42 siswa. Penentuan sampel dengan cara teknik purposive sampling. Ada dua kelas sebagai sampel dalam penelitian ini yaitu kelas eksperimen dan kelas control. Kelas VII-1 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas VII-4 sebagai kelas control. Kelas eksperimen berjumlah 21 siswa dan kelas kontrol berjumlah 21 siswa. Tahap-tahap dalam penelitian ini adalah pretest, treatment dan posttest. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan dari nilai siswa antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Ini dibuktikan melalui hasil nilai rata-rata siswa dari kelas eksperimen dalam pretest adalah 55.29 dan 75.81 pada hasil posttest. Ini berarti pada kelas eksperimen terdapat peningkatan nilai rata-rata sebesar 20.52. hasil nilai siswa dari kelas kontrol pada pretest adalah 55.43 dan hasil posttest adalah 65.05. Ini berarti pada kelas kontrol terdapat peningkatan nilai rata-rata sebesar 9.62. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kelas eksperimen memiliki peningkatan nilai rata-rata lebih tinggi dari kelas kontrol. Selisih peningkatan nilai rata-rata antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol adalah 10.9. Dari hasil analysis data mengindikasikan bahwa ada perbedaan signifikan dari nilai menulis siswa antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Hasil dari independent sample t test pada pretest menunjukkan bahwa -0.028 dan lebih kecil dari angka t table (-2.021), itu berarti kedua kelas tidak mengalami peningkatan apapun sebelum perlakuan diberikan. Hasil independent sample t test pada posttest menunjukkan bahwa 2.940 dan lebih besar dari angka t table (2.021). Itu berarti ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara kelas experimental dan control dalam kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif. Berdasarkan keterangan diatas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa menggunakan teknik Concept Sentence lebih efektif dari menggunakan teknik Mind Mapping.


This research objective was to investigate whether there was any significant difference between the students who were taught by using Concept Sentence Technique and those who were taught by using Mind Mapping Technique or not. This research used quasi experimental design. The populations in this research were all of seventh grade students at SMPN 10 Tarakan. The numbers of sample in this research were 42 students. The samples was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. There were two classes as sample. They were experimental class and control class. Class for an experimental class was VII-1 and VII-4 as a control class. Experimental class consisted of 21 students and control class consisted of 21 students. The steps in this research were pretest, treatment, and posttest. The research result shows that there was different mean score between experimental and control class. It was proven by the result of the students’ mean score from experimental class in the pretest was 55.29 and 75.81 in the posttest. It means that the improvement of the students’ mean score in experimental class was 20.52. The result of the students’ mean score from control class in the pretest was 55.43 and in the posttest were 65.05. It meant that the improvement of the students’ mean score in control class was 9.26. It showes that the improvement of the students’ mean score in the experimental class was higher than control class. The gains of the students’ improvement mean score was 10.9. From the data analysis, it indicated that there was significant difference from the students’ writing score. The result of independent sample t test in pretest showed that 0.028 and lower than t table (-2.021), it means that both of the classes have no improvement before giving the treatment. Meanwhile, the result of independent sample t test in posttest showed that 2.940 and higher than t table (2.021). It means that there is different ability between experimental and control class in writing ability on descriptive text after the treatment is given by the researcher. Based on the explanation above, it can be concluded that using Concept sentence technique is more effective than using Mind mapping technique.
