Penelitian ini menganalisis tindak pidana pencurian sarang burung walet dari perspektif kriminologi dengan studi kasus di Desa Tanah Merah Barat, Kecamatan Tana Lia, Kabupaten Tana Tidung. Pencurian ini marak terjadi karena tingginya nilai ekonomi sarang walet dan lemahnya sistem keamanan di lokasi usaha. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor penyebab pencurian dan menganalisis upaya pencegahan yang dilakukan oleh Polsek Tana Lia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode hukum empiris dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Data diperoleh melalui observasi, wawancara, dan kuesioner terhadap 40 responden. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pencurian sarang burung walet disebabkan oleh faktor internal dan eksternal. Faktor internal meliputi lemahnya ekonomi pelaku, rendahnya pendidikan, serta kesadaran hukum dan moral yang rendah. Faktor eksternal mencakup ketiadaan sistem keamanan seperti CCTV dan alarm, struktur bangunan yang tidak kokoh, kurangnya saksi mata dan barang bukti, lemahnya koordinasi antar pemilik gedung walet, serta minimnya pengawasan langsung oleh pemilik. Upaya Polsek Tana Lia dalam pencegahan meliputi langkah preventif seperti penyuluhan Harkamtibmas, himbauan pemasangan CCTV, patroli rutin, dan kerja sama dengan pemilik gedung serta masyarakat. Secara represif, Polsek menindaklanjuti laporan masyarakat melalui penyelidikan, penangkapan pelaku, dan koordinasi dengan pemerintah desa, meskipun masih terkendala minimnya alat bukti. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan peningkatan sistem keamanan, edukasi hukum, serta sinergi antara masyarakat dan aparat penegak hukum guna mencegah pencurian sarang burung walet secara lebih efektif.

This study analyzes the criminal act of swiftlet nest theft from a criminological perspective, using a case study in Tanah Merah Barat Village, Tana Lia District, Tana Tidung Regency. Such thefts are prevalent due to the high economic value of swiftlet nests and inadequate security systems at business sites. The purpose of this research is to identify the causal factors behind the thefts and to examine the preventive measures implemented by the Tana Lia Police Sector (Polsek Tana Lia). The study employs an empirical legal research method with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires administered to 40 respondents. The findings indicate that swiftlet nest theft is driven by both internal and external factors. Internal factors include the perpetrators weak economic conditions, low educational attainment, and limited legal and moral awareness. External factors involve the absence of security systems such as CCTV and alarms, weak building structures, lack of eyewitnesses and physical evidence, poor coordination among swiftlet house owners, and minimal direct supervision by the owners Preventive efforts by Polsek Tana Lia include community policing outreach (Harkamtibmas), urging the installation of CCTV, conducting routine patrols, and fostering cooperation with building owners and local residents. On the repressive side, the police respond to public reports through investigation, suspect apprehension, and coordination with village authorities, although these efforts are hampered by limited evidence.
