Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas aplikasi ELSA Speak pada kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas sebelas Farmasi di SMK Kesehatan KALTARA. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain pra-eksperimental dengan satu kelas pra-tes dan pasca-tes dengan empat kali pertemuan yang melibatkan 21 siswa. Penilaian keterampilan berbicara difokuskan pada 5 aspek yaitu, kelancaran, tata bahasa, kosa kata, pengucapan,dan pemahaman. Teks deskriptif yang digunakan sebagai dasar untuk mengevaluasi kemampuan berbicara siswa difokuskan pada tema kesehatan, termasuk subtopik seperti penyakit, obat-obatan, tenaga kesehatan, dan alat kesehatan. Hasil analisis statistik menggunakan paired sample t-test menunjukkan nilai signifikansi sebesar p = 0,000 (p < 0,05), yang mengindikasikan penggunaan aplikasi ELSA Speak memiliki pengaruh positif terhadap kemampuan berbicara siswa dan alat pembelajaran yang efektif dan menarik untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris lisan.

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the ELSA Speak application on the speaking skills of eleventh grade Pharmacy students at SM Kesehatan KALTARA. This study employed a pre-experimental design with one class pre-test and post-test with four meetings involving 21 students. The assessment of speaking skills was focused on 5 aspects; fluency, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and comprehension. The descriptive text was chosen for evaluating students' speaking skills which focused on the theme of health, including subtopics such as diseases, medicines, health workers, and medical devices. The results of statistical analysis through paired sample t-test showed a significance value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), which indicated that the use of the ELSA Speak application had a positive effect on students' speaking skills and it was an effective and interesting learning tool to improve spoken English skills.
