Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa dengan menggunakan metode MOTI (Message, Observation, Text, Implementation). Penelitian ini dilakukan di SMA Negeri 1 Tarakan sebagai subjek penelitian. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 36 siswa dari kelas X-A di SMA Negeri 1 Tarakan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Desain penelitian tindakan kelas yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kelas kolaboratif, yaitu bekerja sama dengan guru bahasa Inggris sebagai kolaborator di dalam kelas. Penelitian tindakan kelas ini menggunakan model Kemmis dan Me Taggart, yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus dimana setiap siklus terdiri dari tahap (Planning) perencanaan, (Acting) tindakan, (observing) pengamatan dan (Reflecting) refleksi. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan adalah lembar observasi terbuka dan tes lisan (tes berbicara). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dengan menggunakan model MOTI dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Hasil tes berbicara siswa menunjukkan bahwa 59% mencapai KKTP (Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal), dan pada siklus kedua menunjukkan 72%. Dengan demikian, kriteria keberhasilan telah tercapai. Hasil lembar observasi aktivitas guru dan siswa juga telah mencapai kriteria keberhasilan.

This study aims to improve students' speaking performance using the MOTI (Message, Observation, Text, Implementation) method. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Tarakan as the research subject. The subjects of this study were 36 students from class X-A at SMA Negeri 1 Tarakan. The research method was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The design of classroom action research used in this study was collaborative classroom research, namely working with English teachers as collaborators in the classroom. This classroom action research used the Kemmis and Me Taggart model, which is carried out in two cycles where each cycle consists of stages (Planning) planning, (Acting) Action, (observing) observation and (Reflecting) reflection. The research instruments were an open Observation) observation sheet and oral test (a speaking test). The results showed that using the MOTI model improves students' speaking ability. The students' speaking test results indicated that 59% reached KKTP (Criteria for Achieving Learning Objectives), and the second cycle showed 72%. Thus, the success criteria had been achieved. The results of the observation sheet for teacher and student activities also have reached the criterion of success. Keywords: Classroom Action Research, Speaking Performance, MOTI model
