Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam keterampilan mendengarkan siswa kelas sebelas di SMAN 1 Malinau yang menggunakan Kurikulum 2013 dengan siswa di SMAN 3 Malinau yang menggunakan Kurikulum Merdeka. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ialah kausal komparatif dengan jumlah sampel 100 siswa berdasarkan teknik purposive sampling untuk benar-benar relevan dan representative terhadap variable yang diteliti. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan ialah tes mendengarkan dan wawancara. Didalam tes mendengarkan, peneliti menggunakan soal yang diadaptasi dari tes kemampuan mendengarkan TOEIC Collins. Dalam menganalis data, dikarenakan data tidak normal, maka peneliti menggunakan tes Mann-Whityney untuk melakukan uji perbedaan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan mendengarkan siswa di SMAN 1 Malinau yang mengimplementasikan Kurikulum 2013 dengan siswa di SMAN 3 Malinau yang mengimplementasikan Kurikulum Merdeka. Hal ini dapat dibuktikan melalui nilai rata-rata siswa di SMAN 1 Malinau sebesar 241.00 (Level B1-Intermediate), sedangkan nilai rata-rata siswa di SMAN 3 Malinau sebesar 185.40 (Level B1-Intermediate). Sebagai tambahan, dilihat dari hasil tes Mann-Whityney, nilai P-value 0.001 lebih tinggi dibandingkan α-value 0.05. Pun setelah diterapkan Effect Size, level perbedaannya sebesar 0,3339. Hal ini berarti nilai kemampuan mendengarkan siswa memiliki perbedaan yang signifikan dengan kategori medium. Perbedaan tersebut terletak pada sistem pembelajaran yang di mana Kurikulum 2013 lebih sistematis dibandingkan Kurikulum Merdeka.

This study aimed to determine whether there was a significant difference in the listening skills of eleventh-grade students at SMAN I Malinau, which used the 2013 Curriculum, compared to those at SMAN 3 Malinau, which adopted the Merdeka Curriculum. A causal-comparative research design was employed, with a sample size of 100 students selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instruments included listening tests and interviews, in which the listening test questions were adapted from Collins' TOEIC listening skills. Due to the non-normal distribution of the data, the Mann-Whitney test was utilized to determine the differences between the groups. The results revealed a significant difference in the listening skills between the two groups. The mean score for students at SMAN I Malinau, which implemented the 2013 Curriculum, was 241.00, placing them at the B I -Intermediate level according to the CEFR levels. In contrast, students at SMAN 3 Malinau, who learned English under the Merdeka Curriculum, had a mean score of 185.40, also within the BI-lntermediate level but notably lower. The MannWhitney test results showed a P-value ofO.001 , which was less than the significance level ofO.05, indicating a statistically significant difference. Furthermore, the effect size was calculated at 0.3339, indicating a medium-level difference between the groups. This disparity in listening skills could be attributed to differences in the learning systems, with the 2013 Curriculum being more systematic compared to the Merdeka Curriculum being more flexible.
