Tujuan dari penilitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis peningkatan pemahaman membaca siswa dalam teks naratif setelah menggunakan Story Mapping Strategy. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian pre-eksperimen. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMK Negeri 2 Tarakan. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sepuluh di SMK Negeri 2 Tarakan. Jumlah sampel dalam penilitian ini adalah 26 siswa. Dalam memilih sampel, peneliti menggunakan cluster random sampling technique. Kelas TKJ-1 yang meemiliki 26 siswa terpilih sebagai treatment class. Pada tahap pretest, siswa diminta untuk menjawab soal-soal. Soal tersebut terdiri dari 25 pertanyaan dalam bentuk pilihan ganda. Setelah pretest, peniliti memberikan treatment terhadap siswa. Setelah treatment diberikan, kemudian di tahap posttest siswa diminta untuk menjawab 25 pertanyaan dalam bentuk pilihan ganda. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan dalam pemahaman membaca siswa dalam teks naratif setelah mengunakan Story Mapping Strategy. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan hasil dari nilai rata-rata pretest dan posttest siswa. Nilai rata-rata siswa pada pretetst adalah 57.8462 sedangkan nilai rata-rata siswa pada posttest adalah 69.8462. nilai rata-rata siswa pada posttest lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan nilai rata-rata siswa pada pretest. Peningkatan dari nilai rata-rata posttest ke pretest adlah 12.0000. Hasil dari Paired Sample ttest menunjukkan hasil 15.000 dan lebih tinggi dari t-table (2.060). Selain itu, hasil dari sig (2 tailed) adalah 000 lebih rendah dari 0,05. Dari hasil tersebut, bisa dilihat bahwa terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan antara nilai pretest dan posttest siswa setelah menggunakan Story Mapping Strategy. Berdasarkan penjelasan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Story Mapping Strategy efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dalam teks naratif.

The objective of this research is to analyze the students’ improvement after using story mapping strategy in reading comprehension of narrative text. This research used pre-experimental design. This research took place at SMK Negeri 2 Tarakan. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Tarakan. The number of sample in this research was 26 students. In choosing the sample, the researcher used cluster random sampling technique. TKJ1 was choosen as the treatment class which consisted with 26 students. In the pretest, the students were asked to answer the questions. The questions were given in multiple choice form which had 25 questions on it. After giving the pretest, the researcher gave treatment to the students. After the treatment was given, the students were asked to answer 25 questions in multiple choice form in the posttest. The result of this research showed that there was improvement in the students’ reading comprehension on narrative text after using Story Mapping Strategy. It was proven by the result of the students’ mean score in the pretest and posttest. The students’ mean score in the pretest was 57.8462 meanwhile the students’ mean score in the posttest was 69.8462. The students’ mean score in post test was higher than in the pretest. The improvement of the mean score from pretest to posttest is 12.0000. The result of Paired Sample t-test showed that 15.000 and higher than t-table (2.060). Meanwhile, the result of sig (2 tailed) 000 is lower than 0,05. From the results, it can be seen there is significant improvement between students’ pretest and posttest score after using Story Mapping Strategy. Based on the explanation, it can be concluded that Story Mapping Strategy is effective in improving students’ reading comprehension on Narrative text.
