Abstract

Maternal mortality is one of the main indicators of a country's health status. Maternal mortality is caused by complications during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum. The number of maternal deaths in 2022 showed 3,572 cases in Indonesia. The cause of most maternal deaths in 2022 was due to complications in pregnancy as many as 801 cases. All women expect childbirth to be painless, but the intensity of childbirth pain experienced by a mother varies greatly in response to the perceived pain stimulus, it depends on the patient's psychology, motivation, and social and cultural support. The birth ball is one of the non -pharmacological methods that can help mothers to reduce childbirth pain. The purpose of the research was to determine the intensity of pain in childbirth mothers during active phase I prior to the use of pelvic rocking and number 8 techniques with the birthball. The researcher employed quantitative research with a quasi - experimental approach, utilizing a one - group pretest - posttest design. To determine the intensity of childbirth during the active phase I. Before and after being given the birth ball technique. The instruments used were a gym ball, observation sheet and NRS ( Numerich Rating Scale ) pain scale, using the Wilcoxon non - parametric test. The results of the Wilcoxon non - parametric test showed that the average intensity of labor pain in the first stage before being given the pelvic rocking technique and number 8 with birthball was 7.07 and the average intensity of labor pain in the first stage after being given the pelvic rocking technique and number 8 with birthball was 5.13. The results of the Wilcoxon test obtained a P value of 0.001 ( p < 0.5 ), It showed that there was an effect of pelvic rocking technique and number 8 with birthball on the intensity of childbirth pain during the active phase I at Griya Mom's Center Bidan Fatimah. It concluded that the birthball can affect the reduction of pain during childbirth mothers in the active phase I. Keywords: Childbirth, Pain, Phase I, Birthball
