Abstract

Program Kampus Mengajar yang merupakan bagian dari kebijakan Kampus Merdeka telah resmi dikeluarkan untuk Angkatan I pada tanggal 9 Februari 2021. Program Kampus Mengajar bertujuan untuk memberikan kesempatan bagi Mahasiswa mempertajam kompetensi abad 21 (berpikir analitis, penyelesaian masalah, kepemimpinan, manajemen tim, kreativitas dan inovasi, serta komunikasi interpersonal) melalui aktivitas pengembangan pembelajaran di satuan pendidikan dasar dan menengah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengalaman Mahasiswa Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Borneo Tarakan selama mengikuti Program Kampus Mengajar di Sekolah Dasar di Kota Tarakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif yang terdiri dari 5 peserta mahasiswa Jurusan Bahasa Inggris yang tergabung dalam Program Kampus Mengajar Gelombang VI. Sumber data utama adalah wawancara mendalam dan dokumentasi yang memberikan informasi atau bukti-bukti yang berkaitan dengan penelitian. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis tematik yang dikembangkan oleh Braun dan Clarke (2006). Penelitian ini juga menggunakan dua teori yaitu The Adult Learning Theory oleh Malcolm Knowles dan The Experiential Learning Theory oleh David A. Kolb. Temuannya menunjukkan beberapa tema dari wawancara. Diantaranya adalah motivasi mengikuti Program Kampus Mengajar, proses awal mengikuti program Kampus Mengajar, pengalaman berharga selama mengikuti program Kampus Mengajar, keterampilan yang meningkat selama mengikuti program Kampus Mengajar, pengalaman saat mengajar bahasa Inggris dan yang paling utama adalah kendala yang dihadapi selama mengikuti program Kampus Mengajar dari pendaftaran hingga program Kampus Mengajar selesai dilaksanakan.

The Teaching Campus Program aims to provide opportunities for students to sharpen 21st century competencies through learning development activities in primary and secondary education units. This research aims to find out the experiences of students of English Department of Borneo University Tarakan during the Teaching Campus Program in Elementary Schools in Tarakan City. This research uses qualitative methods consisting of 5 student participants of the English Department who are members of the Teaching Campus Program Wave VI. The main data sources were in-depth interviews and documentation. The data were analysed using thematic analysis developed by Braun and Clarke (2006). This study also used two theories, namely The Adult Learning Theory by Malcolm Knowles and The Experiential Learning Theory by David A. Kolb. The findings show the motivation to join the Teaching Campus Program, the initial process of joining the Teaching Campus Program, the valuable experience during the Teaching Campus Program, the skills improved during the Teaching Campus Program, the experience when teaching English and most importantly the obstacles faced during the Teaching Campus Program. The most common problem faced by the participants was the lack of funding they received. This then hampered some of the programs undertaken by the participants. Another problem is the lack of facilities in the target schools which hinders the learning process. Despite some obstacles faced by Teaching Campus participants, participating in this program provides many positive benefits, the Teaching Campus program provides an opportunity for them to improve their knowledge, and skills, and provides them with a variety of experiences ranging from adapting experiences, teaching students both teaching literacy and teaching.
