
Improving Students' Reading Comprehension In Descriptive Text Using Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) In Seventh Grade Of SMPN 12 Tarakan

Abstract
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman membaca siswa pada teks desckriptif melalui strategi Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI). Penelitian ini menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) model Kemmis and McTaggart yang terdiri dari empat tahap yaitu, perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan dan refeklsi. Kriteria keberhasilannya adalah 70% siswa mencapat nilai minimal (KKM) yaitu 70. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui penilaian test dan observasi pada kegiatan guru dan siswa dengan menggunakan strategi CORI. Pada siklus 1 menununjukkan bahwa persentase nilai siswa sebesar 33% atau 11 dari 30 siswa di kelas belum mencapai nilai ketuntasan belajar minimal 70, sedangkan pada siklus 2 mencapai 87% atau 27 dari 30 siswa mencapai nilai ketuntasan minimal yaitu 70 dengan nilai rata-rata 74. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan strategy CORI dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa kelas 7.4 SMP Negeri 12 Tarakan.

The purpose of this study is to improve the student reading comprehension ability in descriptive texts by using the Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) strategy. This study used the Classroom Action Research (PTK) of Kemmis and McTaggart model which consisted of four stages namely planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The success criterion is 70% of students achieved a minimun score (KKM) of 70. Data collection was carried out through test assessments and observation on teacher and student activities using the CORI strategy. In 1st cycle, it was found that the percentage of student scores of 33% or 11 out of 30 students in the class had not reached a minimun learning completion score of 70, while in 2nd cycle, it reached 87% or 27 out of 30 students achieved a minimum completion score of 70 with an average score of 74. Threrefore, it can be concluded that the use of CORI strategy can improve the student reading comprehension at grade 7-4 in SMP Negeri 12 Tarakan Keywords: Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) strategy, reading comprehension, descriptive text
