Abstract

Tujuan dari penelilitian ini adalah untuk menemukan kebutuhan dan karakteristik siswa kelas tujuh di SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Tarakan, dan mendesain materi pelajaran untuk siswa kelas tujuh di SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Tarakan. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan Penelitian dan Pengembangan. Subjek dari penelitian adalah siswa kelas tujuh di SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Tarakan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan kuisioner diberikan kepada siswa, wawancara guru bahasa Inggris dan lembar evaluasi. Total siswa yang menjawab pertanyaan yang terdapatdalam kuisioner adalah 28 orang siswa. Terdapat beberapa prosedur didalam melakukan penelitian ini yakni; melakukan analisi kebutuhan, pengembangan materi ajar, validasi ahli materi ajar, revisi materi ajar, uji coba materi ajar dan evaluasi materi ajar. Dalam melakukan analisis kebutuhan; siswa diberikan kuisioner, melakukan wawancara untuk guru bahasa inggris sedangkan validasi ahli dilakukan dengan memberikan lembar validasi. Lembar evaluasi juga diberikan kepada siswa setelah uji coba materi ajar dilakukan. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwasanya materi ajar yang sudah didesain dan dikembangkan oleh peneliti sesuai dengan siswa kelas 7 di SMP Muhammadiyah 1Tarakan.

The objective of this research are to find out the needs and characteristic of the students of seventh grade at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Tarakan, and to design the appropriate learning materials for the seventh grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Tarakan. The type of this research was Research and Development (R&D). The subject of the research were the seventh grade students in the academic year 2013/2014 at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Tarakan. This research was carried out by questionnaires were distributed to the students, doing interview to an English teacher, and evalution sheet. The number of students who were asked to answer the questionnaier were 28 students. There were some procedures which employed in this research, they were doing needs analysis, developing the materials, conducting expert validation, revising the materials, trying out the materials and revising the materials. In doing needs analysis; questionnaires were distributed to the students, doing interview to an English teacher there, while expert validation was done by giving validation sheet to the expert. Evaluation sheet also was given to the studens after the materials were tried out. Finally, it can be conclude that the instructional material which had been designed and developed by researcher were appropriate with the students of seventh grade at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Tarakan.
