Tujuan Penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keefektifan penggunaan Crossword Puzzle dalam tuliasan desriptif tekt siswa di kelas VIII F SMP Negeri 6 Tarakan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan preeksperiment untuk mengetahui keefektifan penggunaan crossword puzzle dalam tulisan desriptif teks siswa. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan dalam penggunaan crossword puzzle dalam tulisan desriptif tekt siswa. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan hasil dari nilai rata-rata pretest dan posttest siswa. Nilai rata-rata siswa pada pretest adalah 32.96 sedangkan nilai rata-rata siswa pada posttest adalah 62.08. Nilai rata-rata siswa pada posttest lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan nilai rata-rata siswa pada pretest. Peningkatan dari nilai rata-rata posttest ke pretest adalah 29.12. Hasil dari Paired Sample t-test menunjukkan hasil 19.337 dan lebih tinggi dari t-table (2.064). Selain itu, hasil dari sig (2 tailed) adalah 000 lebih rendah dari 0,05. Dari hasil tersebut, bisa dilihat bahwa terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan antara nilai pretest dan posttest siswa setelah menggunakan Crossword Puzzle. Berdasarkan penjelasan tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Crossword Puzzle efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman siswa dikelas VIII F dalam penulisan desriptif teks.

The objective of the research was to know the effectiveness of crossword puzzle in Improving Students’ Descriptive Writing of Eighth Graders of Smp Negeri 6 Tarakan. The method used in this research was quantitative method. The design of this research was preexperimental design to know of crossword puzzle in improving students’ descriptive writing. The result of this research showed that there was improvement in the students’ writing on descriptive text after improving Crossword Puzzle. It was proven by the result of the students’ mean score in the pretest and posttest. The students’ mean score in the pretest was 32.96 meanwhile the students’ mean score in the posttest was 62.08. The students’ mean score in posttest was higher than in the pretest. The improvement of the mean score from pretest to posttest is 29.12. The result of Paired Sample t-test showed that 19.337 and higher than t-table (2.064). Meanwhile, the result of sig (2 tailed) 000 is lower than 0,05. From the results, it can be seen there is significant improvement between students’ pretest and posttest score after using Crossword Puzzle. Based on the explanation, it can be concluded that Crossword Puzzle is effective in class VIII F to improving students’ Writing on Descriptive text.
