Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari dampak dari penggunaan Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition efektif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca pada siswa kelas delapan di SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain pre-eksperimental. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas Delapan di SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan. Jumlah populasi dari penelitian ini adalah 72 siswa. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah kelas VI I I C yang terdiri dari 28 siswa. Sampel diambil dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Tahap-tahap dalam penelitian ini adalah pre-test, treatment dan post-test. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukan bahwa terdapat perbedaan nilai ratarata antara pre-test dan post-test. Ini dibuktikan melalui hasil nilai rata-rata siswa dalam pre-test adalah 50.86 dan hasil post-test adalah 63.57. Ini menunjukan adanya peningkatan nilai rata-rata siswa sebesar 12.714. Dari
hasil perhitungan menggunakan paired samples T-test dapat diketahui bahwa nilai sig.2 tailed lebih kecil dibandingkan level of significant (0.000 < 0.05). Itu mengindikasikan bahwa
hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima dan hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak. Dengan demikian terdapat pengaruh signifikan dari penggunaan Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca. Paired samples T-test telah dianalisis menggunakan SPSS version 24.0. Secara keseluruhan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition memberikan efek dalam pengajaran pemahaman membaca pada siswa kelas delapan di SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan.

The aim of this research was to find the significant effect of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition to improve students reading comprehension at eighth grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan. This research was conducted by using pre experimental design. The population of this research was all of the eighth grader at SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan. The total of population was 78 students. The sample of thisresearch was VI I I C class that consisted of 28 students. The sample was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The steps in this research were pre-test, treatment and post-test. In the pre-test, the students were asked to answer a test given. After gave the pre-test, the researcher gave the treatment. This class taught by using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition. The treatment done, students were asked to answer a test given in the post-test. The result of this research showed that there, was different mean score between pre-test and post-test. It was proven by the result of the students’ mean score in pre-test was 50.86 and in post-test was 63.57. It showed that the improvement of the students’ mean score in experimental class was 12.714. From the result of computation using paired samples T-test showed that sig. (2 tailed) was lower than level of significant (0.000 < 0.05). It indicated that the alternative hypothesis ( ) accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) rejected. Thus, there was a effect of using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition in teaching reading comprehension. The Paired samples t-test was analyzed by using SPSS version 24.0. Overall, it concluded that Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition gave an effect in teaching reading comprehension to the second grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Tarakan.
