Kemampuan berpikir kreatif matematis (KBKM) adalah salah satu kemampuan esensial yang harus dimiliki siswa pada pembelajaran Matematika. Akan tetapi, belum banyak penelitian yang membahas mengenai proses dari berpikir kreatif matematis (BKM) tersebut. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi proses BKM sekaligus faktor yang menghambat BKM siswa sekolah menengah pertama. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui pemberian tugas, melakukan pengamatan, dan melakukan wawancara. Tugas yang dikerjakan oleh partisipan merupakan soal open-ended. Temuan pada penelitian ini merupakan tema-tema yang dihasilkan dari analisis data. Berdasarkan temuan yang diperoleh, proses BKM siswa mencakup: membaca, memilih, dan mempelajari soal, mengalami perubahan persepsi, mencari ide awal untuk menyelesaikan soal, mengalami inkubasi, menyelesaikan soal dan memeriksa solusi. Selama mengerjakan tugas, siswa melakukan pengaturan diri. Lebih lanjut, faktor-faktor yang menghambat BKM siswa adalah memiliki persepsi negatif terhadap Matematika dan pembelajarannya, motivasi intrinsik dan perasaan jenuh, pemahaman konsep dasar yang rendah, mengalami learning loss, efikasi diri yang rendah terhadap soal open-ended, pemahaman prosedural yang rendah terhadap soal open-ended, dan pendekatan guru yang tidak sesuai dengan harapan siswa. Dengan demikian, hal-hal yang menjadi perhatian untuk meningkatkan KBKM siswa adalah memberikan kesempatan dan melatih siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal open-ended, mengevaluasi dan meningkatkan kompetensi guru, serta menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang kreatif.

The ability on Mathematical creative thinking (KBKM) is a crucial skill that the students have studying Mathematics. However, the topic of mathematical creative thinking has not been extensevily researched. The purpose of the research was to explore the process of BKM, along with the factors that pose challenges for BKM of junior high school students. This research used qualitative method with the use of a case study design. Data was collected through assignment, carrying out observations, and conducting interviews. The task of the participants is an open-ended problem. The research findings are themes generated from data analysis. Based on the findings obtained, the process followed by students in their BKM methodology consists of reading, selecting, and undertstanding the problem, experiencing incubation, solving the problem and verifying the solution. During completing the assignment, students engage self-regulation. Furthermore, the factors contribute to the challenges that students face in their mathematical learning process, including a negative perception of mathematics and its learning, intrinsic motivation and feelings of boredom, inadequate grasp of fundamental concepts, learning loss, low self-efficacy of open-ended problems, low procedural understanding of open-ended problems, and teacher approaches that does not match with the students’ expectations. Thus, the main concern for increasing students’ KBKM are providing opportunities and training students in solving open-ended problems, evaluating and improving teacher’s competence, and creating a creative learning environment.
